Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

The rollers will not grab them, no matter what I do. Ordinary paper works fine, but not envelopes. I've tried every feed setting.

When this type of problem occurs the first thing to look at is the feed rollers. These are the round wheels that pull the paper in to the printer. New/Good working order they should be rough and have a tread on them like a tire from your car
After prolonged usage, just like the tread from the car tire, these wear down and can cause the rollers to slip and not grip properly.
I would suggest checking to see if they need replacing.
Hope this helps!

Manual feed won't grab paper

If the printer works good when it prints the envelopes/label one by one, I think it works normal (because the paper is not a standard paper).

My display window says, replace roller or pick roller. What does this mean?

That Means that the Roller which picks the Paper Inside on the Printer is not working well..

Try the Folowing Troubleshooting Steps if it still doesnt work the Printer has to be Replaced!

In this Case take out the Paper from the Paper Feed Tray........ Unplug the Power Supply from the Printer.......... Remove both the Cartridges from the Printer.......... Now take a size 10 Envelope fold it so that it should become like a thin long strip........ Now Insert that Envelope on the left side corner of the Printer and move it from right to left and left to right as fast as u can for about 10 times.......... Now Insert the Ordinary Papers onto the Printer and insert both the catridges and Turn on the Printer......

Good Luck!!!!

Our infoprint 1125 is on a ibm mid range computer system & is accessible to 9 users. when we print an envelope, the printer asks for a manual load of the envelope, how do i change this to automatic...

It's been my experience with these machines that envelopes are always fed through the manual feed tray.

The Tray 2 cassette's pick up assembly is different than the manual feed,
it has 2 rollers that have a wide area they can pick up while the manual feed has just 1 single roller.
If you remove the tray cassette and look under the printer you can see the two rollers, these would probably have a hard time picking up a standard size envelope.
Also the tray would have to path the paper up and would have to bend it through the paper path which can cause problems with the flaps on the envelopes.

Best method is to use the manual feed tray and to also have the back cover open so that the envelopes path straight through the printer without being curled.

(I've seen these in a ton of places ranging from small business to banks and they always have the envelopes in the manual feed)

Envelope printing

I have an older, but similar, 5510 model with the same problem. A partial solution that works about 75% of the time is to tuck the envelope flap inside the envelope and give the end of the envelope that is to feed into the machine a slight curve by gentlly bending it on both sides. Then make sure there are only a few sheets of paper in the paper tray (less than 1/8" thick stack). Position the envelope so it is only about 1/2" from the end of the paper in the tray so the feed rollers have to transport it into the machine. I also have to set the margin for the return address in Word to be 1" from the edge of the paper so it prints in proper position, but this may be a problem with my Word 2000.

Label sheets won't feed, jam

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

good luck..

Paper feed

When the paper is in the feed section there is a rubber pad on the underside and a rubber roller on the other. Try cleaning the rubber pad with a cytrus cleaner or just water, on a rag. Do not hesitate to "rough it up" a bit. Only helps the cause.
NOTE: if your machine has a "cork" pad rather than "rubber". Do not clean with a solution and only rough it up slightly.
Also check that your machine does not have a paper/envelope selector (often found in the paper exit area). If so ensure it is set for paper.
