How to Check a Washer when Is Not Filling With Water OTHER washers test similiarly
# Test procedures to follow when a GE Hotpoint washer is not filling

* Disconnect the washer from the wall outlet
* Set the timer dial on regular and pull the knob to turn the timer push-pull switch on
* Set the temperature switch to the cold/cold setting
* Open the controls panel to gain access to the water mixing valve solenoids
* Touch the 2 terminals on the cold water solenoid with your volt meter test proves. Make sure that your body don't touch the washer cabinet, this eliminate the chance of getting an electrical shock.
* Have someone plug the washer cord for you while you check the voltage
* The reading should be 120 volts
* Disconnect the washer from the wall outlet
* Touch the 2 terminals on the hot water solenoid with your volt meter test proves. Remember, to keep your body from touching the washer cabinet to eliminate the chance of getting an electrical shock

Have your helper plug in the washer cord again so you could check the voltage at the hot water solenoid

* The reading should be 120 volts. If you get 120 volts, this tells you that the wall outlet, the timer, the water temperature switch cold and hot water settings are working ok.

If the GE Hotpoint washer is not filling, the problem should be on the water valve, the screen filters or the water supply
#

If one of the solenoids is bad you will need to replace the complete water mixing valve assembly YOU SHOULD ALSO GET AN OHMS READING OR SHOW CONTINUITY WHEN TESTED UNPLUGGED ON BOTH SELINOIDS HOT AND COLD

her won't start, the user control and display board may be defective. Check for power to the washer first.

Timer

If the washer won't start the timer might be defective. This part is often misdiagnosed, check other components before replacing this timer.

Line Fuse

If the washer won't start the line fuse might have blown.

Thermal Fuse

If the washer won't start the thermal fuse may have blown. It can be tested for continuity. Watch our fuse testing video for more information.

Line Fuse and Holder

If the washer won't start the line fuse might have blown, or the line fuse holder might be damaged and need to be replaced.

Main Control Board

If the washer won't start the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other parts and causes first.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly

If the washer won't start the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer won't start the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Incoming Power Problem

If the washer won't start check to see if there is power at the electrical outlet which the washer is plugged into. Plug a lamp or radio into the outlet to check it. If the outlet is dead, check the circuit breakers or fuses for the home.

Power Cord

If the washer won't start, check to be sure there is power to the electrical outlet for the home. If that is OK, the power cord itself might be defective. This is rare. You can check the power cord with an Ohm meter for continuity.

WASHER WILL NOT AGITATE, MOTOR JUST HUMS GE SPACEMAKER LAUNDRY UNIT

Thanks for choosing FIxYa and welcome to the site. If you have a washer that has a weak agitation or no agitation at all, here are some possible solutions. You need to check your belts. Most washers have one or two belts. Check your lid switch. If a lid switch is bad, it can cause the washer to not work properly. Sometimes, they will not work at all. Make sure you check your drive motor. The drive motor controls the spinning, draining, and agitation. Most washers have the reverse motor, meaning the shaft rotates in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise. It is possible to lose one direction and not the other. Some washers have a clutch that controls the agitation. If it is bad or worn, it may prevent the agitator to work. Most of these washers come from General Electric. You could have a bad motor coupler. They are located on the side of the motor drive inside the washer. It is also possible that you have a bad transmission. Check the agitator itself. You could have a bad spline or two. The splin accompanies the shaft and allows the movement of the agitator. If you rule out all the parts above, you may have an electrical issue or an issue with the control board. It is very important to test each part and make sure it is getting power. If a part is not working and not getting any power, the power loss may be the reason that it doesn't work. You can test the current in the wires with a voltage meter.

The alarm doesn't sound when the alarm is tripped

This can be caused by either a blown siren power fuse on the motherboard or a blown voice coil in your siren. It would be best to have someone with an electronic background check this with a volt/ohm meter. If voltage is present at the siren during an alarm but there isn't any sound then you will need to replace the siren. On the other hand if no voltage is measured then you need to find and replace the fuse that sends voltage out from the motherboard to the siren.

Clock on a GE electric range is buzzing - how to disconnect it

Turn off power to range first!!!

You'll have to remove the back of the panel in which the clock is installed to access the back of the clock. There will be two wires attached to the clock. Just pulling one of these wires off will stop the clock.

I would suggest, however, that you pull both wires off, put electrical tape on the ends of the connectors, and tuck them out of the way somewhere around the clock.

Presto Heat Dish buzzer

for those of you that want to void your warranty or just dont care there is a fix for the buzzer problem.
If you take the three screwws in the back and the one in the top next to the heat selector switch the steel dish portion will come away from the dish back. located on the bottem of the back inside panel there is a small disk looking tilt switch that has one red wire on one end and on the other a white and two black wires. remove this component and all wires from it. take all the wires from it and remove the ends exposing solid wire. for this modification you will need a philips driver wire stripper and cutter and one medium size wire nut available at almost any hardware store. take all the loose wires and wrap them together and place the wire nut on them. be sure to tuck the wire someplace away from the dish portion when going back together. put the unit back together and plug it in and "presto" you have no anoying buzzer anymore and the heater wont go on and off like it used to. this seems to be a comen problem due to lack of insulation and poor design on heatdishes part. hope this solved your problem
