I have an old Whirlpool washing machine. It works fine, but now the impeller moves only a little and it moves weakly. How do I take the impeller off?

Do you mean the Agitator? if so the Agitator is held on by a large nut under the the snap off plastic cap on the top of the Agitator, please be advised if the part has never been removed it will be nearly impossible to break it loose due to corrosion. Also this problem is more than likely not related to the Agitator but is a failed Washer Transmission, if this is the case then you are better off to replace the washer, the transmission is very expensive if it is still available.

1) check the strainer. Not just the holey one you can see, but there might well be a very fine mesh filter under it ~ if so, remove it to clean it (it can appear clean, but still be clogged with transparent cellulose fibres). Try running the machine empty without the strainer/filter fitted. You should hear a difference if the filter was causing the problem.
2) you might have a weak impeller. After a while the plastic impeller on some machines just wears away, leaving insufficient fins to move the water, this can be accelerated by e.g. broken glass stuck in the pump. Impellers can also slip on the motor shaft; the motor's spinning but the impeller doesn't. This means removing the machine, turning it over and removing the pump for inspection...

First, confirm that the holes are not blocked on these arms. (I did not want to assume you have done this.)

Then check the impeller on top of the motor stem for being loose or worn/damaged - to rule the impeller out. If it is fine, then the motor is failing and too weak to drive the spray arms.
To answer your question, I think the answer is "They don't make them like they used too!"

What does it mean when it says Sud on the display and the machine stops in the middle of the wash cycle? What should I do?

This typically indicates slow drain condition. Check for any clogs or kinks in the drain line. Also check that the pump is not clogged and that no pump impeller blades are missing/broken and that the impeller moves freely. Any broken/missing blades or if the impeller won't turn freely will indicate a faulty pump. Hard objects can sometimes make it to the pump and cause damage. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Whirlpool AWM1200 washing machine wont advance at certain stages

there is a little motor in the selector switch that moves the dial around.  This little motor is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes it's sold separately and sometimes you need the whole timer.

Wash machine sometimes gets stuck on rinse cycle & dryer not dry

Sounds like the drain hose for the washer is too far down in the stand pipe at the wall causing a siphon effect, try raising drain hose a little. The dryer sounds like the vent line from back of dryer too wall is pinched causing an air flow obstruction. Hope this helps.

you need to remove the agitator, then pull the top half off, replace the dogs inside the cam, and re assemble it, you can find a kit online for a few dollars.

Low or no spray pressure

You sound like you diagnosed it pretty good, so I think you can change the impeller. The biggest problem is making sure everything is lined up so it wont leak after its re-installed. I've never had much luck removing the old impeller without breaking it into pieces. just be careful not to mess up the shaft. If its an older machine, some Whirlpool/Kenmore can have the whole thing changed in one part. Its a little more $$ but it has the motor and all. And its easier and faster!! Also, your pressure problem may be related to the motor.
