Hello.

Here are some links I found in Microsoft Support that could help:

Restore Default Windows 7 File Extension Type Associations
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html
When you double-click an .EXE file, the program may not launch, instead it may open in Notepad
(displaying the .exe contents), or may launch in any other application.
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exeasso.htm
When you run an .exe file on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer, the file may
start a different program

By default, when you double-click on a picture in Windows, it is opened with Windows Photo Viewer. but you would rather open it with a different photo viewing program, such as photoshop, paint, windows picture and fax viewer, etc..

This is the possible fix to your problem.

1. Double click the My Computer icon.
2. Click on Tools menu and scroll down to Folder Options.
3. Select the File Types tab.
4. Select the image file formats from the list and Click the Change button next to open with: 5. Select the appropriate photo viewing program for your image files so that the next time you double click the image file, the desired program will load it.
when I right click the - alpug_73.jpg

Hope this helps!

Today, i accidently changed the "Open With" funtion for all of my desktop icons to itunes, when i was only trying to fix the itunes icon. Now when i double click on any icon, i.e. Mozilla Firefox...

This will work, it's a little time consuming and there may be a faster way I am not aware of, but this way is sure fire to work. I assume your operating system is Windows because of the "Open With" comment. First thing you have to do is find where the .exe file for each and every program that is affected actually resides. For example you MIGHT find the .exe file that runs word in c:\windows\microsoft\office. That is just an example, the actual place depends on several different things like which OS you actually have, whether its 64 bit OS or 32 bit OS and if you specified a different folder when you installed it. Second you can either delete the shortcut and make a new one by right clicking on the actual .exe file for the program and clicking on create shortcut OR you can right click on the shortcut you already have, click on properties, and type the path to the .exe in the text box labeled "pointer" or "points to" or something similar.

Go to My computer in file Menu select Tools>folder option >view
Uncheck the Hide file extension for known format and Hide protected operating system files.

Now go to desktop you can see the file with the extension, change your file extension with your known format.

Ex: ss.jpg

if this a document file than change it to ss.doc

My problem is with MS Photo Editor bundled with Office: I can no no longer run it in a ''normal'' sized window. When I use it to open a JPEG, it starts out minimized, and R-clicking on the taskbar icon and...

    Try this:

Find the MS photo program on your hard drive (I believe, but am not sure, it is located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Photo Editor.Exe Create a shortcut (right click on Photo Editor.exe and choose create shortcut) to the program. Then, after the shortcut is created, RIGHT click on the shortcut and click on properties. In the properties windows that pops up, find "run probram MAXIMIXED and make sure that is checked." then, click on OK a couple of times until you can see the "shortcut to photo editor.exe" shortcut. Double-click on that shortcut, which should start photo editor maximized.

    Woo Hoo.

    Now close photo editor.

Hopefully from this point on every time you open photo editor it will open maximized because you have just tweaked the registry to do so...

    Take care,

It takes my PC a very long time to boot up, what can i do?

If you have installed any softwares recently it might slow down the pc as many softwares will install a startup file in order to start faster. You can shut these programs from starting up when the pc starts.
I put 2 steps to resolve this in order of simplicity.

Remove icons from the Startup folder
Some programs open with a shortcut icon in the startup folder (Startup icons). Use the following steps to show any startup icons that might be hidden and remove startup icons from the startup folder:
NOTE: Removing items from the Startup folder does not uninstall the software program.
    1. Right-click the Start button, and click Explore . The Windows Explorer window displays with Start Menu already selected.
    2. Click the plus sign ( + ) next to Programs .
    3. Click Startup . The shortcut icons are listed in the right pane of the window.
    4. To show any hidden icons, click Tools , click Folder Options , and click the View tab.
    5. Click Show hidden files and folders (Windows XP/ME) or Show all files (Windows 98), and click OK .
    6. Click an unwanted startup item in the right pane of the window and drag it to a blank area on the Windows desktop. Release the mouse button to drop the icon onto the desktop.
    7. Continue dragging unwanted icons until all unwanted startup icons are on the desktop. Click Yes to any window that display asking to confirm the removal of a read-only file.
    8. Close Windows Explorer and restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Delete the startup icons that were moved to the desktop after you are satisfied with the way the software programs are working.
If you find that a particular software program should not have been removed from the Startup folder, double-click the startup menu item to open the Startup window. Then drag the icon from the desktop back into the Startup window.

Depending on the type of file you are downloading, If its a Jpeg. Windows Fax & Picture viewer should open it.

Check the file extension that you downloaded and verify it is an Image file i.e (bmp, tiff, jpeg, gif)... Then, right click that file, choose properties and see Which program opens it.

If there isnt a default setup Click on Change...and choose Windows Fax & Picture Viewer502fd15.jpg
