Question about Sony PlayStation® 3 (80GB) Console

1 Answer

I get a black screen when I turn on my PS3. When I turn it on I do get the normal start up sound but the screen is black. The power cord is plugged in, the HDMI cord works (I switched 3 different cords and what didn't work with the PS3 did with the XBox 360) and all 3 were connected to the TV since they worked with the XBox 360. What is the problem and what can bew done to fix it?

Your PS3 may not be in HD mode. When you turn on your PS3 hold down the button until you hear a series of beeps. This will switch the PS3 to work with your HDMI. Now turn off and turn on the PS3 normally and you should have video.

I may be wring on the steps so check your manual or reference:

Laptop black screen

You turned on your laptop and horrors upon horrors, the screen is BLACK! You see that the laptop has power but besides that nothing is happening.
I want you to know that there is a very good chance you can get out of this situation quickly and without any cost. This fix works on all brands of laptops:

• 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
• 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
• 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS
That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen.
After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
Replace your battery.
or if wont start
Here are the fix steps:
1. Turn off your computer
2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer.
There will be two tabs labeled 1 and 2.
4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)
6. Go to Control Panel -> (Mobile PC) -> Power Options -> Under Balanced choose change plan settings
7. Choose Change advanced power settings
8. Find Processor power management and change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100% for each On battery and Plugged in.
9. Click Apply then OK
10. Shut down you computer.
11. Disconnect the power cord.
12. Re-install the battery on the bottom of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and restart the computer.

I had the same problem, stuck in a hotel room for 2 days. When I held down the button, next time I turned it on, I got the same prompt with using HDMI output, said yes, and screen went black. However, a screen then came up asking if I could see the image or not, but it has a 30 second time limit before it saves those setting, you have to click "No" on this screen, and it will drop the resolution to 780p instead of 1080 and it should work! Make sure you're paying attention so you don't miss the screen!

I just have a black screen

Make sure your ps3 is on to start off. If you turn it on and still get a black screen check that the video cord is plugged into your ps3 and your tv. If your using hdmi cables also assure that they are plugged into the tv and the ps3. If the last step does not work and the screen is still black make sure you are on the right channel for example some tvs have to be on channel three and other tvs have to be on component. If that does not work take another peice of hardware you own like a dvd player and see if it works. If all else fail return your Ps3 for a new one.

Best of luck,
Dylan

Check the wires to see if you set them up right and see what video or channel you plugged your cords into. If that doesn't work see if your cords are broken

Play Station 3

When you start your PS3, press the power button and hold it for 5 seconds. It will beep and reset the machine to the default settings. What is happening is it is thinking you are still using the other cable. Reset to default and it will recognize the new cable. Hope that helps.
