    Just some clarification

    1. Is the ink cartrige new? the error usually comes when there is no ink or ink cartridge is broken.
    2. when you unplug it, plug it back in, and then turn it on, did you wait for 3-5 minutes?

usually doing this fixes the problem.

How does this fix the error 5200 since when you unplug the printer and open the top, the cartridges will not move to the middle since there is no power? Can they be forced to the middle and how is it done since they remain in a hard to get to position when you unplug the printer?

According to Canon it says for the MX340 error 5200 you should:

    Solutions List:

Press ON switch and wait a few minutes before powering back on the device
    Replace ink cartridge(s) MX340
    -------------------------------
This is what the manual says about errors:
"****" is displayed in the alphanumeric character and depends on the error occurred.

    5100 is displayed:

Cancel printing, turn off the machine. Then clear the jammed paper or protective material that is preventing the FINE Cartridge Holder from moving, and turn on the machine again.

    ----------------

THERE HAVE BEEN NO MENTIONS OF ERROR 5200 ON THE MANUAL. WILL CALL CANON CUSTOMER CARE

    I have tried both

What does the 5200 error code mean on printer mp250

The 5200 error message indicates over heated print head. There may be some dried up accumulated ink on the bottom of the print head.

Start with printer powered off
1. Open cover of printer and verify that the ink cartridge carriage is not in the center of the printer. Leave cover open.
2. Unplug the electrical cord from the printer and wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug electrical cord back in, when ink cartridge carriage moves to the center of the printer quickly unplug the electrical cord again. This should leave the ink cartridge carriage in the center of the printer so you can get to it.
4. Lift up the gray arm that surrounds the ink cartridges.
5. Remove the entire ink cartridge holder (not just the ink cartridges). It will lift out easily as a unit. Lower the gray arm that you lifted to remove the cartridge holder. Check for any debris or residue and clean while it is out of the printer. You can use either isopropyl alcohol or hot water on a Qtip. Be care if you use alcohol because if you have rubber gaskets it may dry them out. I recommend warm water.
6. Close printer cover. Plug electricity back in.
7. There should be a message about checking the ink cartridge on the display
8. Open printer, lift the gray arm that surrounds the ink cartridge area and reinsert the ink cartridge holder (with the ink cartridges in it). Lower the gray arm.
9. Close printer cover.
10. The display should appear normal now, and you should be able to print again.

I hope this helps and good luck!
