Yes!i am in the d,v,d manufacturing feild and i have seen most every problem you can think of,the problem you are having is generaly caused by despersing of the laiser leens, knowing as high birfrengance some of your light sectors are escaping due to loss of light, replace leens,or replace unit.

Dvd goes as far as reading but no picture

Try DVD on another good player. If it does not work , DVD is faulty, clean the disc. If it does not work even after cleaning, DVD is faulty, replace it. If DVD works well on another player, your own player is faulty. Faulty may be in the IC which is processing the picture signals.

Yeah I have a Sylvania model # SP A2751 106. It is a old **** tube tv. When I go to hook up the the dvd player and switch it to vcr/aux the picture rolls in bars upwards. Its not the dvd player tried it on...

There should be a preset resistor on circuit board of old CRT based TVs, designated as vertical rolling adjust. Try to locate it and adjust a little till rolling stops, while playing the DVD. The set will be live during this process, so be careful. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock. Instead, contact any experienced service technician, or the nearest service center.

Will play for a while then picture freezes

Its mother board should be suspected. There is an IC, wich is not a repalceable one, processes all video and audio signals from the laser pickup unit. If the fault begins after some time, this IC should be suspected, as it will heat up to an extent. If it overheats, due to some inteernal circuit faults, the problem you describe can occur.
Just contact an experienced service technician, or the Authorised Service Center for Sony at your town.

DVP-SR500H picture will not stop rolling vertically

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble.
This is a very common problem with this series. Unfortunately, there is no ' quick ' fix and unit needs to be repaired. This problem has been reported to the manufacturer many times, tough no recall or lawsuit has been places till now. You have a defect on the U Board, which is the input jack panel on the back. All signals, including the decoded DVI input, are processed by this board, and the sync signals are stripped here to be processed but the appropriate circuits in the set.

I wish i could have a better solution.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Have sound but no video. Have checked leads and tried altenative leads with no sucess.

If the log is not seen even after the video out is connected to a video in of a TV then it is possible tht the mother board has failed on the DVD player.
However if the log is seen but there is no picture but the tracks are read then the optical signal processing section can be faulty.
Since this problem requires a signal test or a board change it is best to take an estimate from SONY service. If similar set are available you can swap the boards to confirm.

When I put a dvd in, it tries to load but then ejects the tray. This happens with every dvd and its also the second unit that we have experienced this problem with.

This kind of problem is due to two reasons:
1. Check your DVD, may it gone bad due to scratches or got too old 2. the lens of DVD player gone faulty/dusty, try to clean it with moist cotton or cloth els it might need replacement
Good Luck

Fuzzy Picture

Are you using the component (RGB) outputs, and a Sony TV? I believe that there is something in the output of at least some Panny DVD recorders (over the RGB component path), which Sony TVs don't process properly.
