Question about Samsung HTC6930W Theater System with Wireless Speakers

1 Answer

I have a Samsung BD-HT-C6930W. I have Wireless Broadband Internet (Unlimited 4G) with verified speeds well over the 1.5 mps. I use a Wireless G-Router with Booster to run Internet to my PC,Xbox and PS3 along with the Samsung. I don't run all of these Components at the same time but I am still getting an Internet Speed Avg of 400 kps. How in the world do I get faster Internet speed for the Samsung so that I can Stream movies?

I am currently located about .6 miles from the Tower. While I have been able to receive more than 1.5 mbps on Speed Test, the Clear Engineer that I spoke with said that I should be getting at least 7 mbps which I thought would be sufficient to run 1.5 mbps on the Samsung Receiver. Could this be part of my problem? Also I have read that using a Wireless N-Router should produce a stronger signal throughout my Home Network. Is this not true?

  • pelliottharm May 18, 2011

Something else that is curious... I was able to Stream Netflix on my kids XBox in their bedroom flawlessly but on the Samsung it tend to get dropped connection and as I stated the Receiver is telling me that it is receiving less than the 1.5 mbps. Why would that be? The Samsung is closer to the Wireless Router than the XBox. I haven't been able to test out the Netflix on the PS3 yet because the PS Network being down. It sits close to the Samsung Receiver. Perhaps by next week I will be able to test the PS3 as well but in the meantime I sitting scratching my head.

  • pelliottharm May 18, 2011

I am scratching my head because I can flawlessly stream (no drops, no clocking) movies on Netflix on the kids XBox in their bedroom but not on the Samsung which sits close to the Wireless Router. I haven't been able to test out the Netflix streaming on the PS3 yet because of their Network being down but intend to test it once the Network is back up. Why would the XBox be able to stream flawlessly but the Samsung continue clock and drop the connection?

  • pelliottharm May 18, 2011

I understand that File size can make a difference. When comparing Apples to Apples, streaming the same movies on the two different components, I am able to watch the same movies with flawless streaming on the XBox but not the Samsung. Why is that ?

  • pelliottharm May 18, 2011

The movies were not HD. The cordless phone is approximately 15 ft from the Samsung. Could that be part of my problem?

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. The issue that you have is an issue of all most but not all 4g connection users. They will verifies that the connection is 1.5Mbps. However did they explains to you that the connection is UPTO 1.5Mbps and not exactly 1.5Mbps, the speed of your connection will depends on your Location (how far you are from the base station where the signal has been sent), Network Traffic (Number of users that are connected or using the same base station). 4g is faster than 3g and 2g connections and it's a lot cheaper that than HSIA or DSL but you need to be aware about the issues about it. With your question how will you make it faster? The answer is there no way you can change the configuration on your end unless you change your plan to a higher speed, you need keep in mind that ISP will provide you the speed of the package but it's always UPTO. If you have that issue it is worth it to have a HSIA connection or DSL who because lines are better that signals
Hope this helps you understand how 4g technology or connection works.

The router will produce a stronger signal it is true. But it doesn't mean that it will boost the speed. It will make the signal strong so that even if your far from the router you will still be able to detect the signal. Thats the feature of the Router that you have. 1.5Mbps is fast however it will depends on how you will use it. Like for browsing its fast but if you will watch a streaming movie or download it's slow because you need to consider the file size of the movie specially if it is on HD.

Like what i have posted above it will depends on the size of the movie and the quality. Let me give you an example if your watching on you tube the connection is fast right it is because the file size of the video is small. That would be the issue

How do i get my sprint phone to work on wi-fi ?

sprint phone or samsung ?
Sprint offers high-speed WiFi service for existing Nextel customers, and provides an extensive network of hotspots in the United States at locations commonly frequented by business travelers, such as hotels, airports and conference centers.
Getting Sprint WiFi requires a Nextel customer account, connection-management software, a MyNextel user account and a computer that supports high-speed broadband.
Sprint WiFi plans include an unlimited WiFi hotspot and an unlimited PC access plan with a WiFi hotspot package.

Sign up for WiFi service through Nextel by calling 1-800-SPRINT1.
Download and install the Nextel Connection Manager software.
Nextel offers the WiFi version of the connection-management software at the Sprint Nextel website (see Resources).
Register your account via MyNextel on the Sprint Nextel website (see Below).

Samsung Epic 4G Phone into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Samsung Epic 4G smart phone allows you to convert your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect up to five devices.
Such a set-up will keep you from running around searching for an area that offers free Wi-FI. If you're stuck in an airport or staying overnight at a hotel, you won't have to pay extra for Internet service.
You can connect your laptop or other media device to your phone's Wi-Fi network.

Press the "Home" button, which looks like the outline of a house, on the bottom of your Samsung Epic 4G phone.
Click the "Menu" button to the left of the "Home" button.

Click the "Settings" icon, which looks like a gray box with a spoke in the middle.

Scroll through the list and click "Wireless & Networks."

Press "4G" until a check mark appears, indicating the 4G network is enabled.

Click the "Home" button.
The 4G icon will appear to the left of your signal bars in the upper-right corner of your screen.
The separate sets of bars above the 4G logo indicate the strength of your 4G signal.
When the bars above the 4G logo are completely gray and the 4G logo is white, you have a weak signal.
When you are no longer receiving a 4G signal, your 4G logo will be gray and a 3G logo will appear, indicating that the 3G network is now enabled. If both of the logos disappear, you are not receiving any signal.
You must have either a 3G or a 4G signal to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Enable Sprint Hotspot
Press the "Applications" icon, a blue box with four whites squares in it, in the lower-right corner of your Samsung Epic 4G phone.

Press the "Sprint Hotspot" icon, which looks like a phone with two signal bars on the right side, until a check mark appears to the right of the icon, signaling the Spring hotspot function is enabled.
A pass-key allowing you to connect other devices to the phone's network will appear on the screen.
Write the pass-key down.

Enable Wi-Fi on your laptop or other device that you want to tether to your Samsung Epic 4G phone.

Search for the Wi-Fi network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone.
The name of the network will begin with "SPH-D700XXX."
To change the name of the Wi-Fi network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone, press the "Menu" button; the "Settings" icon; and "Device Name." Enter the new name for phone's Wi-Fi network.

Click the network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone on the device you want to tether to your phone'ss Wi-Fii network.

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. The 130Mbps is the connection speed to the router. Not to the Internet.

You will get a reported 130Mbps, But, you arent really getting 130Mbps. of connection speed, its false. Try to check the package of your internet connection and run a speed test on both computer using Speedtest.net to test the real speed of your internet connection.

If you have question please let me know. Thanks using Fixya.

Why is it that new sky customers are being offered 20mbs on their broadband, and i who have been with sky broadband for years are only getting 5mbs?

are you on the unlimited package for internet with sky

if so then the speed is automaticly boosted to 20mbs
they just dont tell you but the thing is that you will never get those speeds because of the amount of data copper cables can handle

have you check the speed on the internet

Assuming your connecting wirelessly, test it by directly connecting to it with an ethernet cable and then run a speed test. If it dramatically improves, you have a wireless problem ( router, wifi card, poor reception, etc.) If it stays about the same, probably poor speed from your broadband provider.
