Question about Garden

Open Question

Hi, i have an older Sunbeam model 640 bbq grill. The old burner rusted out and felll apart. I ordered a new replacement part but, now it looks abit tricky putting the old venturi and burner plus clips etc... together. I do not have the schematic to check the reassembly of the parts? Any help appreciated. Jim

SOURCE: Kenmore Burner Hissing Noise?

You are on the right track. Check if you can clean the burner. It may help. If you do have to replace the burner, get the stainless steel replacement. It costs a little more, but it lasts 10x longer than the steel burner assembly.

SOURCE: craftsman LT1000, model 917.272059 - cutting deck misaligned

If you wnt to level the deck you will need a tape measure and a 9/16 wrench and a LEVEL surface. Under the mower on the two lift arms/bars there is a nut on each side. you need to adjust these nuts up or down to raise or lower that particular side. When you make an adjustment to one side though keep in mind it will have the opposite effect on the other side. Hope this helps.

I have a 4 burner elite, 9 years old. How do I adjust the flame? The knobs do very little. The flame is way to hot. Is there an adjustment in the valve?

Are the knobs just turning on their shafts? Or are the knobs and shafts turning? Hopefully, it the first thing, because it is repairable by replacing the knobs. Which can be ordered directly from BBQ's Galore.

It that's not the case, then ALL of the burner valves will need to be replaced. As, there is no adjustment. replacing all he burner valves is not an easy task. It's similar to rebuilding the head of the grill. If it's as old as you say, you'd probably be better off replacing the whole grill with a newer model.

Yellow flame

You may have a rusted, clogged or damaged burner or venturi tube. With a flashlight, check for spider webs, wasp nests or dirt (mud) dauber nests in the opening of the venturi tube where it connects at each gas valve orifice. Clean it out manually or blow it out with air compressor. Make sure the air adjustment opening (on the end of the burner's venturi tube) has not been changed. If it's closed too much, it will be difficult to light and cause lazy yellow flames. If it's not clogged, the burner may just be old and rusted and the burner holes are not allowing very much gas through anymore. It's also possible the burner has rusted so bad, the burner holes have been enlarged, it is falling apart or has cracks along the burner seams. If so, replace the burner(s) immediately. It is unsafe to use. Your local propane co can usually order the parts you need and some will even do the work, if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself. Bring with you the Make, Model and Serial number of the grill, so they can order the correct parts for your specific grill. Also specify whether it's natural gas2_bing.gif or propane.

Ignitor on gas BBQ no longer works. Replaced battery and cleaned out chamber (light rust). I've tried to remove the ingnition housing, but the entire front panel of the BBQ needs to be removed. Suggestions...

Check to see if the probe where it sparks to the burner inside the grill is clean and not shorted by grease or other gunk and the burner itself in this area is not too heavily rusted or corroded. If not, short of disassembling the whole grill and replacing the spark module, spend $2-3 and buy one of those pistol type grill lighters. The ignition systems on BBQ grills rarely seem to last long.

Dismantle the burner and remove. Take to a local BBQ retail shop, LOWES or Home Depot and look for a matching dimension replacement grille from GRILLE PRO

No gas getting to bbq

I switched to the new style 20# tank with the new turn-on knob.  I couldn't get enough gas pressure to the BBQ burners for all three burners to light or to keep a strong flame on even one burner.  The new style tanks have a safety valve on the inside of the tank that shuts the gas off if you turn the knob on too fast because the safety valve thinks there is leak.  Shut everything off and then try turning the knob on real slow, especially at first, before turning it all the way on.  If that doesn't work (it didn't for me), then replace the large plastic connection valve knob (female end) that attaches the regulator to the tank.  Mine was for the old style tank and was black (low pressure).  I went to a propane company and had them replace it with a green knob (higher pressure).  Took it home and WALA!  Everything works fine now.  But it was very frustrating trying to figure why I couldn't get any gas to the burners after buying a brand new tank.  I hope this helps solve your problems.
