I would recommend replacing the monitor, because it is usually cheaper to than repairing one. If for some reason you need to repair this particular monitor you can look up guides on general monitor repair. Most monitors run on the same preciples with just varying shapes and sizes of parts.

HOW TO RESEAT DISPLAY CABLE THRU HINGE

The solution is dependent on the model you have. There was no mention of that so go to the information I am sending you to a dell website. Dell does allow users to find the service manual to the correct model and info... Go to the site and choose the proper model and look for the service manual, or simply add the "service tag number" from the bottom the the laptop it is the long white tag...

Your problem is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors in the power supply board, this is a common issue on LCD monitors. Here is a link to repair information for this model. You can repair the monitor by replacing the filter capacitors.

My monitor keeps going into power save mode

Hello,

Its not power saver mode, when the display goes black and the power light starts flashing that is a good indication that the power supply is about to die. The Dell E172 monitors are noted for this problem. We have step by step repair guides posted on our web site at: www.ccl-la.com Click on the monitor repair link. The Dell E172 series actually has several sub models, check your specific model, the sticker on the back will have either E172FPb, E172FPc, E172FPf. We have guides for all 3 versions posted.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

This is one soution, many more on the net.

You got parts to fix inside the monitor. Inverter problems. The internet is full of this problem. Some say that even if you replace the bad parts, mostly 2sc5707 transistors, you must find out why they are blowing. Many have replaced the parts only to find out that in a couple hours, the parts are bad again. Solutions range from solder joints, transformers, and other transistors.

Good luck, I'm fixing one as soon as the parts arrive.

First find out why you need to change this transistor, if it is shorted or open then replace it , but be carefull when you substitute parts which could create havoc, to check the spec's of these to components look up the 2n7000 note the specs and see how close the 2n2222 relates to , my recommendation is to get the original.

Dell E173FPc 17" LCD Monitor Problem:

Although similar, this monitor and the associated repair is different than the "b" version. The link above is good to follow for finding out how to open your case but the actual repair is different. If you have minor soldering skills (really the de-soldering is the hard part) and can use a phillips screw driver you can make this repair.

I contacted Tom at a link I found on the "b" site and he sent me the typical components to fail for the "c" monitor. $20 and $1.35 for shipping. The site looks to be down now so I'm not sure if this is temporary or he's stopped selling parts. He is also willing to fix the board if you send it to him. Here's what you need to do:
Replace C922 and C923 with 1000uF 35V caps
Replace c924 and C925 with 470uF 25V caps
Re-solder L201 and L202 with fresh solder.

I did all of the above and the monitor works perfectly. When you take the monitor apart make sure you note where the blue and pink wires go (you'll know what I mean when you get to that stage). The connectors are identical and it would be easy to forget which way they were installed.
