Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a side by side whirlpool E22DQ frig. Found thick greenish black mold growing around the ice dispenser. How can I get the small trim cover piece off so i can field-strip around the dispenser? What do you recommend I use to kill the mold and not harm the plastic?

I would use warm water and vinegar. There are 2 small slots under the trim at the bottom, If you insert a small rigid pin in the slot on either side this will unlock the trim. Just pull toward you.

Mold growing around ice dispenser area. Cant figure out how to get to the mold .

Pull ice maker out and clean it. Then make sure you have a fresh water filter on water supply. Mold in the freezer is uncommon if its truly freezing inside. You have dirty water coming in.

How do I remove the ice water dispenser cover on my whirlpool conquest

Remove the drip tray. Using all your fingers from both hands press down on the bottom of the cover, and at the same time pull away from the door. The top of the trim has tabs that set behind the dispenser housing. To replace the trim, set the upper tabs behind the housing and press in moving down both sides till you get to the bottom.

Ice dispensor flap does not stay shut

This is how most dispensers are accessed.

Check for screws around or on the under side of the dispenser trim that can be removed to get the trim off. Sometimes the drip tray in the base of the dispenser needs to be removed to access the screws. Sometimes the top panel (touchpad) of the dispenser is removed to access the dispenser components.

If there are no screws, use a putty knife with the end wrapped with tape so the paint on the door panel is not scratched.

Start at the bottom of the trim and CAREFULLY pry the trim away from the door panel.

There may be small slots in the panel on the under side that the putty knife can be inserted into.

With the trim off, the dispenser components can be serviced.

No ice

pour some water in the ice mold and see if it will kick out a batch if it does get a water valve. If ice is already in the mold then replace the ice mold thermostat. If this is a newer ice maker get a hairdryer and make the mold rotate around. This sometimes gets the newer ones back on track.
