Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

I have a Packard Bell Imedia X2415 and on power up, the pink Packard Bell screen appears and stays for around a minute. After this a screen pops up saying "Reboot and select proper boot device". I cannot press F8 to display the boot order but can access the BIOS to view the order which goes: DVD drive, Hard drive, USB, network. On power up, there are no unusual noises which could suggest that the hard drive is fine. After inserting the recovery DVD 1, the Packard Bell screen still appears for a minute and then the boot device screen appears again but allows a boot from the DVD drive, however the windows loading screen appears and nothing else happens. I left it like this for half an hour and then gave up.

SOURCE: reboot and select proper boot device

Hi, ull need to check the boot device priority in ur BIOS which is accessable usualy by pressing the delete key at the start of the boot process. If everthing is correct there and yet it doesnt boot from ur hard disk, try changing it to boot from cd and check if it boots. If it does then i think either your hard disk is corrupted or your OS.

SOURCE: I have an ASUS A6000 laptop which has worked fine

Hi, you'll have to go to bios/Cmos settings& set the bootable media as your CD/DVD rom drive name & you can try to recover it.

SOURCE: I have a Toshiba Satellite

Windows is corrupted beyond repair, you need to reinstall it. For the recovery discs, call Toshiba at 800-457-7777. They will want to know the computer's serial number and a credit card number.

SOURCE: Replaced hard drive and am getting a "Reboot and

Hi seqhdha,

The reason why you're receiving that meesage is the system is not detecting any bootable device on the computer or it is boot from a media that is not bootable (CD/DVD/USB). To fix this problem if you already installed the Operating System you can change boot priority setting and select the Hard Drive as the First Boot Device however, if you havent install the Operating System you need to select the CDROM as the First Boot Device and insert the Windows Installer.

Here are the steps on how to access the BIOS Page.

1. Restart the computer and while it is booting tap DELETE button.

2. On the Bios page look for the BOOT tab then set the priority to either Hard Disk or CDROM depends if you already installed the OS or not.

3. Follow the instruction on how to install the Operating System

4. Rate me if this helps so i can help others.

Thanls for using Fixya.

SOURCE: my laptop says: reboot

Most PC's, including laptop PC's, bootload from the "C" drive.
If the system detects a fault with the C drive you'll get the message that you're asking about.
Try booting into the BIOS. That's the low level system BEFORE the computer boots to Windows.
Depending on the BIOS that's in your computer, you should be able to find a screen that indicates the boot sequence.
Make sure it's set to either the hard drive (C) or the CD/DVD as the primary boot disk. If the CD/DVD is the primary boot disk, make sure the C drive is the secondary boot disk.
If the BIOS is already set up that way, try to boot from the Windows installation disk.
If you can boot from the installation disk but not the C drive, there is a problem with the C drive; it could just be that the boot sector has been damaged, in which case you should be able to repair it with the installation disk. If you can't repair it, have someone test the disk for you; it could be physically damaged.
If that's the situation, you'll need a new hard drive.

i'd say your not passing the post test....if you hear a beep when you start your pc it should boot to windows screen if you dont hear beep you could have a loose cpu fan open up pc and make sure the fan is secure if not try tightening it can be tricky either that or it could be your power supply i wouldnt attempt fixing that if not sure what your doing..or try turning off your pc plug it out disconnect all periphals and press in the on button and hold for 2 minutes then try and boot
