Hi Jeff - The manual describes "Err" as a general error, a "Camera malfunction" and says "If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative." (Bottom of page 132 in the english version of the manual.)

Some folks have had mixed results with removing / mounting the lens once or twice, charging the battery and cleaning the contacts of both the lens and camera body's lens opening. More odten than not though - the camera has to go back to Nikon for repair. it appears that the shutter is replaced and things go back to working just fine again.

I would contact Nikon directly to learn if there are things they would like you to attempt before arranging for service of your D80.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thanks.

Camera wont snap picture

As long as the orange light is on, the camera is not ready to make a picture. The focus area, should become green, to tell you the camera is in focus. Then you can press the shutter release button complete. Check the settings of the camera, and put it in automatic. When you put it in one of the manual modes pipe P M S or A, the camera will not take a picture when there is not enough lift or something else you did not take in account.
If the camera keeps this way, unless you switched to auto, it could be there is something going on. but let me know it auto des not work.

I have a Minolta XG-A camera, and i can take a picture but the shutter is stuck?

My shutter does that when there is low light, or just slow shutter speed. You could try changing those settings, otherwise, last time mine got stuck, I loosened a screw on the bottom right under the shutter release button and the shutter just snapped back into its place.

Image looks fine on LCD screen before snapping pictures and then has streaks or over exposed on the final picture

your problem is lens shutter maybe broken or stuck up. If you notice once you take picture and check to the display it was fine but try to zoom to the maximum you will found out that there's a line in you image.the only way to solve your problem is bring to service center and ask for cleaning the lens shutter.

Snapping problems

You may be experiencing "shutter lag". When you take a picture, you should press the shutter button half-way to allow the camera to lock in the focus (it will beep) before pressing the rest of the way.

My Nikon D2x is having shutter problems, HELP!

the only time i have ever seen this on my D2x is when the lens isnt snapped all the way on. but since you have tried several lenses, i am sure they are snapped on. this leads me to believe something is wrong with one of the contacts on the camera where the lens snaps on--check them to be sure they are springing out and clean. check the owners manual to see if there is another cause for this message.

Nikon D70 - err - won't take picture

Today I was taking photos and the camera quit...the top display says err. The book says release shutter, but I push the shutter and it does nothing but make a little click and the err stays. I took the lens off, and the camera does look like the shutter is open or something.
