Question about Vacuums

2 Answers

I was using my Henry Hoover as usual. When i sucked up quite a fair sized puddle of water. The hoover instantly cut out and a strange burning smell was coming from it. Would this be the fuse, motor etc ? Or would it be worth my while just replacing the entire hoover ?

Hi. I have to wonder why anyone would **** up a puddle of water with a dry vacuum cleaner (with no earth lead). I realise that your question may simply be a joke, but if you are serious, I think it is probably fair to assume that it is now dead and probably gone to "Henry Heaven". Perhaps it would pay you to buy a "Charles" which is a wet & dry version of Henry.

Definitely the motor. You can get a new one from e-spares.com but keep the okd one so you can follow the relevant conections or draw a diagram before disposing of old one.I did not and now no-one can, or is willing, to tell me how to connect it up.

My numatic Hoover is brilliant but it smells what part needs changing? It's not a burning smell, but a musky almost cabbage smell?

It could be the sponge filters or the dust partition that need replacing. But it might also be coming from the motor, best bet is to get it checked out.

It sound like you burned it up when the bags fill on these uprites people keep using them the dirt gets in to the motors and burns them out I would say take it to your vacuum repair

Water in Henry vacuum cleaner motor.

I would say it's essential to open Henry up, otherwise (assuming he has indeed got water inside him) you will wait for ever for him to dry. He can be opened very easily - just undo the four recessed screws on the underside of his hat, and the upper part will lift off. Pay attention to the switch (or switches, depending on the model) as that may be more vulnerable to water penetration than the motor. The motor compartment may have water in it, but the motor itself is probably fairly well protected. When you've got it opened and mopped up any visible water, it will help to give it a blow with a hair dryer.
If in doubt, though, get a professional to deal with it. It pays not to mess with electricity if you're unsure!

My hoover smells of ammonia

Hello,
I too have a problem with a bad smell coming from my henry hound hoover, but thats probely because i haven't used a hoover bag. I took the cloth filter out, banged all the dust off, then sprayed it with 'RugDoctor' pet stain remover for carpets and upholstery. It still smells a bit, but not half as bad as befor. I have now ordered a reusable, zipable, washable cloth hoover bag especially made for Henry's. It cost £8.80 from ebay with free postage. Hope this helps Nikki.

Hoover Elite Rewind Vacuum, smells like a burning motor and is not sucking anymore! Help!!

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. If the motor has a burning smell, it could be the belt but in most cases it would be the motor and that would be in need of replacement. You can try to replace it yourself but there would not a warranty for self installation. If you have an authorized vacuum cleaner dealer do the install then it would be warranted for one year. You can check with the Hoover manufacturer if you like. If you have further questions please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area, or contact the Hoover website and or the cust serv phone # @ Hoover listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
