Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Maytag top-loading washer works very well but usually makes a buzzing sound while it's being initially filled with water - at the warm setting and cold setting but not at the hot setting. My handyman says not to worry, but I'm worrying anyway. Should I be?

I'll tell you why you don't need to worry. You have a dual water inlet valve on the back of the washer where the water supply connects to the washer. There is a solenoid on each valve. one for hot water and one for cold water. Both of them open to mix the water for warm. So your cold water valve is the one buzzing while it's open. This noise is common and there is not danger of a water leak.

Look around at outlets that are close by and make sure you didn't trip one of your GFCI breakers or plug in something to the same outlet and make sure you have power at the outlet where the washer is plugged into.

Kenmore 70 Series will not load hot water

It sounds like need to make some voltage checks on this job. When you set the fill cycle to hot & start the machine do you hear the valve buzz? If you do then the valve is causing the problem.
