It might is the USB Port you are connecting it to, have you checked the other ports? Have you tried using another USB cable? If these two points aren't a possible reason, Windows might isn't updated, is infected or the scanner's USB port broke.

Lexmark X4550 Scanner not working

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

With Canon scanners this is a common problem but an easy fix. All that is required is that you reboot (restart) your computer to clean out the memory on your computer. Many people leave there computers on all the time and canon scanners tend to leave bits and peicies of images in your memory. A fresh reboot will correct your problem.

I hope this helps you out.

Scanner connected to computer by USB and power; but no light is coming up. The software says: can not initialize; scanner not found. Yesterday he worked; today not.

Hi ,
Make sure driver is correctly installed . If not , go to device manager and delete driver . Now disconnect scanner and go to Control pannel to delete HP precisionScan Pro .
Reboot .
Do not connect scanner . Re install PrecisionScan Pro . Reboot and wait for Windows to be settled .
Connect scanner and wait for confirmation of successfull installation of driver .
If you are under W7 , PrecisionScan Pro will no more run .

I was in a accident and the engine light stayed on after the fuel cutoff button was reset. Is it a matter of resetting something in the computer?

Have the car scanned to extract trouble codes. May be a fuel cutoff code or may be something else. The scanner can clear the codes, but make sure you write them down before clearing. If the code is anything other than fuel cutoff, report back.

My scanner says that it has no computer connection and will not scan anything how do I fix this?

Hm. I think that you need to verify that the USB cable or Serial cable is connected tightly to the computer and the scanner.

Also, make sure the scanner and computer are turned on.

Install the proper drivers for this scanner, as indicated by the manufacturer and noting the operating system and version you are running on the computer.

Good luck on this.

Most likely your scanner was put offline by a microsoft update. Mine was knocked out of business by a hardware driver update downloaded from microsoft update.

Try to roll back the scanner driver (my computer, system, hardware select scanner, properties, rollback driver to prior version) or go to your system restore function and do a restore to a earlier date when you know the scanner was working and see if that fixes it.

Worked for me. Windows XP pro
