Because of changes in Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows XP-based computers that use a leaked product key that is known to be available to the general public may not be able to install SP1 or automatically obtain updates from the Windows Update Web site. For an easy and quick method of obtaining your own CD Key please read Quickly Retrieve Windows CD Key

If you have only a few volume licensing product keys to change, you can use the Activation Wizard.

please don't post product key numbers as they are personal and purchased by you; and likely to be used by people who install pirated versions of windows. If you are getting a pop up on boot up saying your copy of windows is not genuine, then you must take it back to the seller, or if it's second hand then the previous owner has installed the system using the incorrect product key. If your product key is genuine then do the following and use your product key. Click on Start and then Run. In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder. Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents registry key. Click on the WPAEvents folder.
