Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Brookstone iDesign iPod dock, model 588459, that won't play. I can put my iPod in it, and the iPod registers that it's docked, saying that it's charging, and music state changes from pause to play, but I get no sound. I've removed the amp and checked it, found all three channels (L, R, Sub) to be working fine. I do believe my issue is in the top of the unit, where the iPod actually docks, but I don't want to risk removing it yet, as it's glued on. The only thing that gets transmitted from the top to the amp is the (-). Is there any way I can get a diagram, or schematic? Thanks for your time, Joseph

These people are jokers, the problem is the speaker iphone connector on your speaker not your ipod. I have the same issue and these Towers are famous for the connector to fail within a year. I doubt either of us can afford the repair. I am looking into it, but you would be better off just plugging your ipod from the headphone jack into the input jack on top of the speaker and charging it separate with an external power supply. These Bozos just want you to send your ipod in for repair when there is nothing wrong with it. You can use the speaker you just can't use that weak connector nearly all of these speakers failed there that is why they are no longer for sale.

SOURCE: iPod not working in my music dock

Hi Natalie
Sounds like you're having logic board troubles. You need to take it to an ipod repair specialist to take a look at it. Sorry to bring the bad news. Chances are it's not a simple repair and will need a new logic board and they're not cheap:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Apple-iPod-Nano-3rd-Gen-Logic-Main-Board-Motherboad-4GB_W0QQitemZ110290080297QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_MP3_Players?hash=item110290080297&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

If it's still less than a year old take it back to an apple store asap for a free replacement.

All the best

SOURCE: Charges, plays on docking station, but doesn't play when removed.

That is a dead battery. It shows charged, only because it will take no more charges. The best solution, as I have told others, is to save the 30 bucks or more for a replacement, sell it on line, should bring 40 or so. Then spend the total 75 dollars on a refurbished ipod. Don't buy a used one, will soon have the same problem, unless it is advertises a new battery

Don't bother trying to fix it these have a real problem with the connector and board buy yourself a docking station with remote for about $15 on ebay and it will fix you up. Plug into the input Jack and you are back in business. You can buy a Pyle Home PIDOCK1 Universal iPod/iPhone Docking Station cheap on ebay and it has a remote. It will fit nicely on your speaker and do everything you need it to do.

My ipod wont play through the docking system, how do i solve this? it is a sony ICF-CS10iP. i have tried unpluging it. it used to work when i had this problem before. but it hasnt worked for a couple days...

Please check the iPod connector on the Sony. If you can wiggle it, it is probably a bad connection. These model Sony radios have the connector directly soldered on a PCB and it tends to get loose after a while due to connecting/disconnecting the iPod. If it is loose, the connector needs to be re-soldered back into place.

I have had the following circumstances when there was a bad connection:
- iPod will not be charged
- iPod can not play music through the Sony
- iPod will play music through the Sony, but an iPhone won't

My ipod touch wont play music on my docking station it used to it still charges it help

I had this problem too. You're going to have to restore it with iTunes.
  1. Plug your iPod into your computer and sync it with iTunes.
  2. Go to the "Summary" tab and choose restore.
  3. Let iTunes do its thing and try it on you dock again.
If that doesn't work then I would suggest taking it on and off of the docking station until it works. I know this sounds really primitive but this is what I ended up doing and now it works fine.
One last thing, if you recently upgraded your iPod's firmware then that might be what is messing you up. Sometimes docks aren't compatible with the newer firmware Apple puts out so you might have to buy a new dock unfortunately. But if your iPod was jailbroken on a past firmware you can use this video to downgrade it to when it worked with your dock.

Bose SoundDock burned out two of my iPods - a Nano and a classic.

um ur sounddock might require that u place the white docking piece that came with ur ipod to be place b4 the ipod is docked if not u may ruin the dock and the ipod usb port this is done because different generation ipods(nana and touch and ...) have different shapes so the entrance for docks may require to be eleveated or reduce in gradient basically if the dock isnt made for the specific ipod or u dont know just put the white piece in
