Hi,
The unit is probably low on freon....this causes it to build some ice while running. Then when the compressor shuts down it will melt off the coil and drip...
Get the refrigerant charge adjusted properly and you should be okay...

3 split units run from one compressor one is not cooling

If there is 3 indoor units from one condensing unit
(6 pipes at outdoor unit) this is classed as a multi unit

All units will run correctly as long as they all require same mode, cooling or heating, if one unit decides to heat it will shut down until master unit decides to heat then it will start, for each unit to individually heat and cool there would have to be 3 pipes to each indoor,

Lg split system wont stay on

When the freon is low the unit will start. When the compressor starts the low pressure side drops and shut it off as the high pressure rises. The low pressure switch shuts off to protect the compressor when there is not enough freon to carry the oil to lubricate it.

Brand-new window unit emits musty smell when compressor shuts off

It SHOULD NOT ... (smell in... even in WEST TEXAS).

BRAND NEW... Rush on down and get a good
NEW one.

I would suspect the condensate drip pan is plugged...

Common for AC units ..

But NEVER in "brand new"...

Get that (previously owned (my opinion)) UNIT
back from where you bought it ... Trade it in for a CLOSED BOX... and make your sales CLOWN write up why you are returning it.

Mold can be quite dangerous!!

Were is the reset button on the unit?

Hi, here is the theory on the reset button on Air Conditioners. They reset via the breaker panel box in your house. Check that first before anything else. However if your unit is popping breakers, it is because the rating for the breaker is incorrect, or there is something that needs servicing usually in the outside unit called the condenser. That piece contains the compressor. A faulty compressor and pop the breaker. Or If the condenser fan that blows over the coils of the outside unit stops (common failure) The compressor will overheat and shut down. That may not trip the breaker but the house will get hot anyway. Usual action for this is to replace the condenser fan motor and starting capacitor. Make sure the speed rating and directional rotation for the replacement motor is the same as the motor removed.
There are other reasons why the system won't come one fully. If the wall thermostat is digital and does nothing. including turning on the fan. There will be a small fuse located on the circuit board of the air handler (part of Air Conditioner mounted inside the house. It houses the circulation fan). That fuse could be blown. That one shuts down just about everything.
On air handlers mounted up into the attic crawl space there is an overflow pan. This pan is mounted directly below the air handler. This pan can fill with water when the drain pain contained inside the air handler starts to overflow because the drain system to that is clogged.
There is a "float switch" mounted in the overflow pan wired to the system in such as way as to shut down the entire AC system if that pan fills.
The handling is to clear the obstruction in the Drip Pan inside the air handler. Then remove enough water from the overflow pan and the AC will run as though nothing has happened.
If you have more questions, write to me on this site.
One thing more. The capacitor alone in the Outside condenser unit can fail and that will stop the condenser completely if it is of a "split" design and used for both the compressor and fan. When replacing this unit alone, ALWAYS find the same specification part.
I hope this helps,
Have a Happy New Year,
Mark

Compressor keeps shutting off after 30mins or so

The system may be going into cool down mode or thermal over load if the temperature is 104 degrees fahrenheit or above since the compressor will shut down if the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. This could also be from low oil in the compressor.

I have the Mitsubishi split unit system with 24BTU for my bedroom, the problems starts after the compressor has started and the cold air has been blown through the indoor unit, this pleasure lasts for...

Ok, it can be two things.
  1. The outside unit needs to be washed with a water hose to rinse any dirt and debris that can cause a restriction in airflow over the outdoor coils. If they are allowed to get dirty, they can cause the compressor to overheat and shut down on thermal lockout.
  2. The unit has a small refrigerant leak and the unit doesn't have sufficient refrigerant for the system to run thus causing the compressor to shut down on thermal lockout. The problem with this one is that generally the inside coil will freeze up and you will notice that.
Compressors generally won't come on at all if they are bad. You can have a compressor go bad and still be running, but it won't cool at all. A bad install can cause a compressor to fail as well. Generally if the compressor fails within the first 10 years, you can bet it's because it was a poor install. This means that a proper vacuum wasn't pulled on the unit before initial start-up. Hope this helps.

Leaking water from inside samsung split sytem

if your indoor unit is leaking water down the wall,it is from one of two things.First, is possibly the insulkation on the copper lines is coming loose and the suction line is condesated, with no way to drain,it drips down the unit. The other possiblity is that the drain hose is coming loose from vibration and leaking a little.
