Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Calculator

1 Answer

My TI-84 has been used for one year already. I thought it was dead but when I inserted new batteries it started working again. I was lucky to have it work for just over a day and it died less than a day after my Maths exam. To sum up, it worked for approximately a day and a half and then died again. I tried inserting fresh batteries which I tested were full with a fairly accurate battery tester and it said that all the batteries were full. It won't start again, no matter how many times I try to change the batteries. Is it dead? Is there any solution? Is there any way to fix this problem? Please help me. I am very grateful for your help and I thank you for helping me. I am truly very sorry for any inconvenience caused. Thank you very much. Thank you.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

This could have been caused by damage from the previous owner but, most electronics have a certain life-span that no amout of batteries can help.
I too had a TI-84 silver edition, and one day it no longer worked. I don't believe there is any solution to this problem. My advice is to simply get another one new.

Ti 84 plus can't transfer 8C010000

Transferring data and programs to the calculator requires a lot of energy that almost dead batteries cannot provide. Change batteries and try the transfer again using TI Connect. To transfer from a similar calculator the receiving one must be in RCV (receive mode).

My TI-84 is frozen/extremely irresponsive. I've tried removing a battery and replacing them with new ones. I've tried holding clear while removing and inserting a battery. Also have tried holding del while...

Try taking the batteries out for more than 30 seconds, then holding on while putting them back in. Then press enter when you try to graph.
If that doesn't work, there seems to be a problem with your firmware, you will want to send the calculator back to TI.
Best of luck!!!

TI-84 Plus Silver Edt...unable to power up

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't work, try a hard reset. Remove one of the four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key. While holding down the ON key, replace the battery.

My TI-84 Plus calculator won't work. It won't switch off by itself. When the batteries are reinserted, it says that all RAM has been cleared. When i press the 'ON' button again, the screen clears. but...

The Ram cleared message is normal after you change batteries. When you see this message you press the CLEAR button to erase it. You do not press the ON button again because the calculator is already ON. If you want to turn calculator OFF you press [2nd][ON] (OFF).

On certain calculators, pressing the ON button when calculator is already ON is interpreted as INTERRUPT the current command.

TI-84 Calculator does not turn on.

Hi,
The applications that run on the TI84Plus Sliver Edition run without a hitch on the TI84Plus and also on the TI83Plus. The only major difference between the 84Plus and the 84Plus SE is the amount of flash memory.
Here is what I would suggest to you.
  1. Replace the main batteries with fresh ones.
  2. Adjust the screen contrast: a. Press [2nd] key and release it. b. Press and HOLD [UpArrow] to darken or [DownArrow] to lighten screen.
  3. Clear the calculator Ram. Usually it is cleared if the calculator is left without main batteries for a while, but you never know.
  4. To clear the Ram, press [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset]. Press [CLEAR] to erase the "Ram Cleared" message.
  5. Go to the education.ti.com, and download the TI Connect software, if you do not have it already.
  6. Install it on the computer and run the program.
  7. Then connect the calculator to the computer using the TISilver Link USB cable or the Standard USB to mini B cable (if you have one).
  8. Turn you calculator ON
  9. In the TI connect program window, press the Updates button.
  10. The TI connect should recognize you calculator and ask you what to download.
  11. At first select to download the latest OS (version 2.43 at this time).
  12. Later you can click the Updates button and select the Latest version of the applications installed on calculator.
If you calculator does not suffer from hardware problems, your calculator should be restored to health.

Hope it helps.

My TI-84 Plus SE is stuck on the "Garbage Collection" screen. Is there any way to fix this?

Hello,
Press [2nd][QUIT]. If that does not work, remove the main batteries. Wait a little while, then insert them back again. It will attempt to continue garbage collection but will say Ram cleared. Clear the screen ant start using calculator.

Hope it helps.

Error message for TI-84 Plus

Try and resolve this issue by re-installing the calculator's operating system using the TI OS Downloader. To do this, please follow the steps listed below. Be sure you have fresh batteries in your calculator.

1. Download the OS 2.43 file to your computer (preferably the desktop).

2. Open the TI OS Downloader by going to Start>>Programs>>TI Tools>>TI Connect>>TI OS Downloader. If you do not see TI OS Downloader, you may need to install the latest version of TI Connect. You can download a free copy from:
www.education.ti.com/downloadticonnect

3. From the main screen, select your calculator and cable type. Click "Next" to continue.

4. From this screen, locate the OS 2.43 file by clicking on the yellow browse folder and navigating to the location where you downloaded it. Double-click the OS 2.43 file to select it.

5. Remove one triple A battery from your TI-84 Plus. With the battery removed, press and hold the [DEL] key while you re-insert the battery.

6. You should see a "Waiting..." message on the screen of your calculator. If so, disconnect the USB cable from your computer, re-connect it and then click "Start Download". This should begin the OS transfer process.
