Creative Ge Force DDR problem

By Janice - usenet poster

Hi,

I've just got the above card and I am experiencing lockups when playing q3.

I seem to recall other posts with similar faults, but I am unable to track
them down.

My system spec is
PII 233
128Mb
Voodoo 2
Ge Force

There are no problems with other games that use the card, so I just wondered
if there was a setting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Fixed my Q3 lockups by getting an Asus P3V4x. I o/c my 550e@733, and the
Asus board allows my PCI and AGP to run withen spec better than my BE6-II.
Also, with the 6 PCI slots, I made sure that my CLAP, NIC, and Live! are not
sharing any IRQs. I know that the CLAP was supposed to handle the 89 AGP,
but I think I got one that could not. Also, previously, when Q3 locked up,
it was a hard lock. Q3 was frozen, and there was a repeating sound which I
guessed was sound card related somehow, even though I use the latest
drivers. I guessed it was my NIC+Live! sharing IRQs. Also, when the IRQ
sharing with my NIC was going on, my PING times were always in the 300s and
up, and I'm on cable!

Since I resolved the IRQ and AGP problems with the Asus, I have had not a
single lockup. NADA! Also, PING times were back to the 75 - 150 range I used
to have with my older BX board.

Get this.

I booted into windows 2000 prof full version and installed the latest Ceaive
w2k drivers for the card.

Just played a full game in 800x600 and 1024x768 in Bi and Tri-linear, in 32
bit colour depth and textures.

I had a look at the IRQ settings for the devices and found that all devices
use different Interupts.

I have a 3c590, AWE64 Gold, DiamonSupra 56k & Ge Force all using either 5,
9, 10 or 11.

I'm gonna swap the IRQs and force some changes in win98 and see what
happens.

Cheers.

You may not need to change the board. Check and see if there is IRQ sharing.
You may be able to solve that with your current setup. Also, if you're
overclocking, you may want to slow it down. Make sure drivers are up to
date. Maybe a reinstallation of Q3 is in order, or reinstall Windows (what
else is new). Try turning off TSRs and/or virus scanners.

Keep in mind that those I had problems were solved on my PC. Also, I make no
claims that this is what is causing your lockups. I'd hate for you to change
your board and the problem still exists. I probably could have fixed this on
my BE6-II, but the Asus board looked really good, so I got it.

I hope you fix your problems so I can kick your (more likely you'll kick
mine) ass online ;-D

cheers.

Dammit, I don't wanna change my board - what a pain in the arse.

the problems I'm getting sound identical to yours (same type of locks, etc).
I'm going to persevere with changing resources, settings, etc.

I also might contact ID and creative. The problem only occurs in q3. Q2 and
other games using opengl or directx seem to be fine. Maybe q3 references
some feature of the ge force, which causes it to hang.

My mate has the same card and all is well with him though.

Oh well,

Thanks again.
