i have had the same problems.
My solution was to install the Microsoft software / driver from their homepage.
When you press then the F-Lock key a small message came up enable / disable.

I think its likely to be a hardware problem but check that your keyboard settings are correct for your country. Look in the control panel and then Keyboard settings.

You didn't specify the type of computer. If you go to HP's support page for your computer there should be a download for the keyboard software. You will need to install that for the extra buttons to work.

There is special software available from HP/Compaq that will allow the "Easy Access" buttons to work. I think there is also a template for Word, to make the label for the buttons. The software is about 7mb. For download check this HP page:
