Contact the manufacturer of the Hard Drive. This is possible, but they can best answer the question.

SOURCE: Data retrieval from crash

Ok Etfactor,

I haven't had my hands on this particular model before so I had to do a little research. If The drive was setup as the Mirrored RAID option(only 1TB of useable space) then there is a simple DIY option I can help you with but it will void your warranty.

If it was setup, as you implied, as a 2TB stripe set, then there is no simple method to recover the drive array and it will recover considerable help from a data recovery pro. The reason it is so much more difficult is that in a stripe blocks of data are divided even bytes/odd bytes between the two drives. This provides exceptional performance but at double the risk of failure, and more than twice the trouble to recover.

If you can verify which config you were using, I can provide appropriate next steps for you. If it was set up as a 2TB stripe, also provide me with your region and city info and I will recommend an appropriate facility to assist you.

SOURCE: How can i recover data

Well, this WD data recovery software may worth taking a try first of all.

If it doesn't help, then take the device for data recovery services if the data is really important to you.

Remember - DO keep the deivice safe from data overritten or physical damage. Regards.

Pc wont recognize my hp simplesave 2TB external hard drive

No PC stated
No OS stated. (operating system) nor if PC is internet connected.
no Simplesafe model stated, is it the 3.5" HDD? version
id yes it needs power pack to use it. HDD uses huge currents to start up. and spin.
USB ports?
if the drive fails on all PCs, the drive is bad. (or was erased by grimlin's in the night)
plug in the power pack 12vdc is correct.
do not mix it up with other packs or boom.
then listen to the hdd case with you ear, here it spin up?
if not the pack is dead, or the hdd is dead.

here is the power pack for it sold in stores
see that model number there you forgot, to mention, MD2....~~~~

the drives can fail and be good.
for many reasons.
  1. bad usb port
  2. usb port driver missing.
  3. OS virus corruptiong
  4. drive fails to spin means no 12vdc power. (bad power pack)
  5. using a laptop and expecting the weak USB ports to start HDD motor, will never happen, on large 3.5" HDD. some cant even start a 2.5"

internal sata.
ok, here are the simple steps.
1: it must have power to the power cable, try 2,
2: put ear to HDD case is it spinning inside.
no, hdd is bad.
yes, good. no clicking or clanking allow, from arms distance.
3: boot pC, does BIOS see the drive (data cable connected)
if no, try all SATA ports. some are only for RAID, try them ALL!
if BIOS cant see a real Sata drive, the drive is dead.

let me explain BIOS, this only proves 2 things.
1: power makes it to the HDD digital chips/
2: and those chips can PNP report the drives spec and ID.
it does not prove the drive works, only that it can talk.
3: if you get it up in BIOS, (this is all par for the A+ classes today)
3a; the boot wINDoZ , run disk manager.
if DM sees the drive, then its there,. good.
now set the drive letter, if missing.
now program manager can see the drive.
give the drive volume label, like: 2TB-monster...
if you can not lable the drive, its VERY VERY sick.
as always , first walk then run.

Can you hear the drive spinning? If not, then you may want to check the power supply. You can also try different ports and cables, or try it on another computer. Another possibility is that the directory is damaged, and DiskWarrior can often repair the directory and allow the drive to mount.

The SimpleTech user guide ( does not correctly describe the reset sequence to switch the RAID level.
The correct reset steps, I learned after talking to technical support, are:
Power down
Depress (and hold) reset button
Power up
Wait 10 seconds
Release reset button

LaCie 1 TB Hard drive won't boot

I lave lots and lots of experience with LaCie Drives (I have 6 of the 2TB models). Every, every, every time a drive fails or runs slowly, it is the power supply. I have now replaced 5. They run very hot (so does the drive), and fail pretty often. It looks like the voltage drops just a smidge, and access times seem to increase, i.e., the drive "runs slow". Then it won't boot at all, and the blue light keeps blinking. Fortunately LaCie has replacement power supplies in the store. Buy a couple extra. I am married to the LaCie drives now, or I would probably switch brands. I kind of guess that they know about this because I contacted the help desk, and he wasn't surprised. Maxtor has a nice drive, and the Calvary drive is $150 cheaper. A drive is a drive I guess. By the way, if anyone is listening, how about building a QUIET, COOL drive with and INTERNAL POWER SUPPLY? GOT IT? All the cords and power supply bricks make me crazy. It might be nice to see a stackable drive where the top of one drive mates to the bottom of another, carrying network info as well as power to the drive above. Hint, hint. We all are building systems with ungodly amounts of storage. Too bad the manufacturers aren't building drives with the durability we need.
