Take out the memory card and find a friend/library with a laptop or computer with a slot for a memory card. A lot of people don't realize that they have this! On many newer laptops it will be on the front side of the laptop, with a mock card inside to protect the connections. If you can find this slot you will definitely be able to retrieve your photos. Let me know if you need help finding them on the computer once the card is inserted.

Well If the photos you want to retrieve are on the 15Mo of internal memory, there is not much to do here except to see a repair center.

If they are not on the internal memory, open the Battery hatch of your camera, push on the small card that is close to the battery, then take the card out.
Now you can plug this card directly in a card reader.
If you have a laptop you might have a compatible card reader on it, otherwise buy one, it is always usefull.
Retrieving the photo this way on any camera saves battery and is usually faster than when using an USB cable.

Hope this helps

Lens error restart camera

  • 1. Begin by turning the power on and off 4 times. If this does not work, remove the battery with the power still on, wait about 15 seconds and replace the battery. Once you have installed the battery, turn the power on. You can plug the audio/visual cable into the camera preventing the LCD screen from powering up. This will allow for more power to be directed to extending or retracting the lens.
  • 2. Try using compressed air to clean around the lens barrel area, this may dislodge the debris that is preventing the lens from extending or retracting.
  • 3. Gently tap on the bottom of the camera while holding the camera with the lens facing the ground. Try using the palm of your hand or the rubber pad on the USB compartment. You want to dislodge any dirt or debris that is lodged within the camera.
  • 4. With the power OFF, place the camera flat on the table with the lens facing the ceiling. While holding the shutter button down turn on the power, this will cause the lens to auto focus hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins.
NOTE: The next step is the most forceful procedure, therefore use extreme caution when performing. Remember, if a click is heard during this step then stop and check to see if the lens error has been resolved. Clicking sounds may indicate that the lens barrel guide pins have reset.
  • 5. While turning the power on GENTLY twist, pull or push the barrel while the lens is extending or retracting. You want the barrel to move in or out evenly. The idea behind this step is to overcome the friction that is caused by misalignments or dirt within the barrel.

The lens will not retract. A message says "lens error, restart camera," but the camera will not restart. The camera is a Canon PowerShot S3 IS. I can hear a "whirring" or motor noise when I try to start...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some simple things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Try removing your memory card. I had the same problem and this worked. You might need a new card. Good luck.

E18 on Canon Powershot A95

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend. The camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a little E18 in the lower-left corner. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix you problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
