Hi btray,

Before you format C:\ You can take the Hard Drive out and use an external usb connector and connect it to another PC and do a virus scan on it. Hopefully that will save you from having to do a clean install of XP.

Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need further help:)

Hi, my acer aspire 3810t is really slow. does anyone know how to speed it up?

In safe mode
1.Scan with superantispyware free http://www.superantispyware.com/
2. Scan with antivirus Avast- your virus protection may be corrupt
http://www.avast.com/index
3. defragment and disk clean up along with disk check
4. reset or restore internet explorer or browser
if things go well you need to scan your computer regularly and update virus data bank
if things are not working, chances are your windows is corrupt and you can either install a fresh copy of windows or restore your computer using your recovery disk
4. Lastly do a diagnostic scan making sure your hard drive doesn't require replacement
good luck!

Possible corrupt operating system. The cause of corrupt operating system is Windows file corrupted or virus infected Windows.

Solution corrupt Windows files:
1. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Restore (restore to the date when the OS is still normal)
2. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Image Recovery (restore using a backup system that you created)

Solution files corrupted due to virus infected windows
Update anti-virus and virus scan (if the virus is detected, the primary action = repair, secondary action = quarantine). Then repair the operating system with System Restore or System Recovery Options.
Note:
If the operating system infected with virus (virus infected not long ago), the best solution is to use System Restore. Restore to a date when the windows are still normal.

Turn computer on the user login screen comes up... enter password and then a blank screen.

Have you removed any virus's or spyware? Windows is either getting stuck on a corrupted driver/loader or a file was deleted. Some virus's do this. If you have a windows disk, run setup from the disk and you will be given the option to repair windows before installing. Select this and when prompted, select startup repair. If this does not work boot to safe mode with networking and try running system restore. If you have system restore enabled and it shows up unavailable or no restore points set, you might have a virus. Forget the free virus/spam removal downlads, they WILL NOT WORK!!! Go to onecare.live.com and use their full scan. It is completely free, runs online, and provided by Microsoft, not some knock-off company. It is the ONLY free removal tool that hes ever worked for me, and I have tried literally every one I have ever found on Google.

Desaster

If the board on a hardrive is bad, it is UNLIKELY that replacing the board will make the drive work. The original may have "tuning" to the disk that a replacemnt doesn't have.

To avoid data loss you would probably have to go to a recovery outfit and pay plenty.

Corupt hard drive 1

First you'll need to acquire an external harddrive enclosure. IDE or SATA depends on your hard drive. Shut the computer down. Remove the hard drive from your computer and place same into the enclosure. You'll need to hook your enclosure with the hard drive hooked up in it to another computer and remove all your data. Place back the hard drive into your computer and now you can do a system restore or a full reformat and OS installation. Respond to me, if you need step by step instructions.

Chek whether your system volume is infected. viruses or trojans may be the root cause. I also think that your system software is corrupt.
