Hello,

There is a touchpad lock on this laptop. When the lock is activated, you should see a yellow/orange light on the touchpad. Simply tap twice where the light is and the touchpad will be unlocked.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: my hp 4520s probook's mouse

First, try double tapping the light again. You may have just mis-tapped.

Next try restarting the laptop. Certain laptops re-enable the track pad on restart so long as a USB mouse isn't connected.

If that fails, navigate to the Mouse Settings on your PC and re-enable it there. If you have a USB mouse you can use that. If not, you can use the keyboard. Windows Key will launch the Start Menu, arrow keys can highlight options, Enter will click on them, Control+Tab and Control+Shift+Tab will switch tabs (in a window that has tabs).

In Windows XP and 7 (and probably Vista), Mouse Settings is located at Control Panel > Mouse > Settings.

The easiest way is to connect a mouse and use it to go to the control panel and mouse and touchpad settings. It can be any USB mouse and they are available for less than ten dollars or even free if borrowed from a friend for the time it takes to correct the settings.
