Hi.

the following solution is valid in case the software Hitachi Imagemixer 3 is installed on the computer and working. I understood you can access other sources such as SD card or DVD.

Disconnect camcorder USB.
Turn off computer.
Remove battery from camcorder, to power reset.
Restart computer.
Connect camcorder to power AC charger and restart it.
Switch the selector on camcorder to HDD (keep USB cable not connected).
Connect USB cable, possibly using a different USB port on computer/Mac.
Start Imagemixer 3 and try accessing the source again.

After minutes, the HDD will be displayed as an optical disk in both MAC and Windows. For details on single operative system see the user manual from page 125. Here the manual:Instruction Manual.

If the procedure does not work, then the software must be reinstalled. Before reinstalling the software test using a different USB cable and a different port. Please, refer to manual page 120 for software setup on the different operative systems.

Regards.

Ginko

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Have you tried multiple USB Ports on computer as watchdog may have them timed out?

Hitachi dz-hs500e camcorder

The DZ-HS500E takes a full sized SD card, your Sandisk is a 512MB microSD card. You need an adaptor (one came with the card if you bought the normal retail package) to fit this card into any standard SD device (see photo here: http://www.i1010.co.uk/p78171/sandisk_microsd_512mb_w_3_in_1_adapter.htm).

There's a demonstration video that shows the SD slot here:

It seems to be somewhat below the viewfinder.

Video playback is not smooth while playing via USB 1.1

USB1.1 port can generally handle transfer speeds approaching 5.5Mbps between PC and DVD Camcorder. Smooth playback of movies requires 5.5Mbps speeds or above. If the PC you are using has some compatibility issues with the USB driver software, the USB port may drop to speeds below 5.5Mbps causing short pauses during video playback. It is recommended to copy the movie file from the DVD Camcorder to the hard disc drive (HDD) on your PC, then playback the movie from the hard drive.
