Hello
Your TV is fitted with Toshiba kit I understands from your description. There is a sub-brightness contorl on board [a small preset resistor, which can be adjusted with a small screwdriver] fitted near to the LOT and towards its left side, on board. First try to advance the screen voltage by adjusting the screen control integrated with LOT. Screen control can be located at the bottom. If it does not help, adjust the sub-brighness control. If sub brighness preset is faulty, this kind of fault may also occur. So replace it with a new one. As far as on screen meny display and blue back screen at no signal is there and the sound is Ok, there is no other fault with the kit, other than adjustments. OK.

Hello -- Raguraman__ The focus and screen controls are integrated with LOT itself. It can be located on the side of the LOT, marked "Focus" and "Screen". Screen control is at the bottom side and focus control is at top. The lower control, it variable and can be adjusted with a screwdriver; and actually a potmeter fitted within the LOT. The sub-brightness control is a small variable reistor, sodered diretly to the PCB itself, can be located just near to the LOT, towards its left side. Actually the circuit is of Toshiba Core, and can be get from any electronics sparepart shops, as book. I thinks you are from India. The book is available. I've had the circuit and data sheet, but it is in Book form; not a digital form to get it to you. OK.

Tv does not turn on

If green light flashes more than 8 times, it could be as simple as repairing or replacing the power supply. Unplug the TV ,remove the back. Look for bulged or leaking capacitors on the power supply. Do it yourselfer? only if you have soldering skills, or purchase replacement board. remember, used boards are just as old as your failed board, buy new or rebuilt, Good Luck

5 blinks - check the 5v SOS D Board since the set is a plasma.

Your best best is to obtain a quote from an authorised Panasonic service centre on the likely cost to replace that board if required, then you can make a decision afterwards - to either go ahead with the repair, or cut your losses and purchase a new set if the latter option turns out to be cheaper.

Always ask about and insist on extended warranties whenever you buy a new TV such as plasmas. These will cover you against expensive repairs, and having to buy a new one each time the old one breaks down in the future.

These days manufacturers lean toward board replacement in plasma and LCD TVs rather than individual components, as it is quicker and easier to replace a whole board than to try and fix an old faulty one. It's also tidier in terms of layout.

I have an old Thomson TV 21FDR more than 10 years old. Recently the Tv screen has a lot of disturbances with the screen full of hirizontal lines and a hissing sound. A well trained technican had replaced the tuner with a new one . But after some 2-3 days the same problem is with the tv. Kindly help me with suggestions.

My Philips TV will not turn on

More than likely it's activating the protection circuitry. Most of the time televisions won't give you a sign of trouble until something actually breaks. One day they work and the next they might not. There could be a problem in the power supply or the scan section which are both internal that would inhibit operation to prevent your set from overheating and causing a problem external to the TV like a fire. If your set is over 10 years old, replace it. If it's quite new but out of warranty then get an estimate at a reliable electronics repair store.

Mother board

I answered many of these questions over the last number of days. Which TV or device was this for? What was the fault that it had?

If you are talking about replaceing the complete mother board for a TV set, if the set is more than a few years old, I don't think it would be available. Most likely the cost would be about the same as buying a new TV set. Another thing to consider, if you were to replace a complete TV mother board, you would have to perform the complete factory set-up to match the display device (CRT for example), and match the other boards driving it.

Older Sony Trinitron (over 10 years old)

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, they are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.

Tv has sound but no picture

Sounds like you have lost video somewhere in the video circuits. Possibly the picture tube could have gone bad or lost filiament voltage. You can check to see if you have high voltage by holding your bare arm close to the screen. The hairs will stand up if you have high voltage. Absence of high voltage will also cause a black screen, but the sound might not work either since on some sets the power for the sound is supplied from the same circuit as the high voltage. Stargazer

Goodmans 1430R TV (bought 10 years ago) switched off in middle of program by itself and no longer works.

Oh come on man the sets tired!!!LOL no really you got plenty of use out of this bugger. Your problem sounds like something opened in the power supply and since the sets all solid state theres no user serviceable parts inside them. If you really wanted to put cash into a 10 year old set for an estimate/? i would not . But if you like the set go for it. Good luck
