Dell laptop power adapter problem

I have trouble connecting my power supply into my laptop. for a while I would shake the cord and push the adapter hard into the slot until I see the charge sign come on. Recently this stopped working and I am unable to connect. Any advise on what the issue is and how to fix it?

I replace my ac power supply for my dell laptop inspiron 9100 but when connect the power supply to the laptop it keeps on blinking and the laptop does not power on

If you can , try charging the battery in another system and then try to power the laptop up with the charged battery.
If the unit will run on a charged battery, then there's a problem in the charging circuit, and you'll have to check all the components in that area.
If it doesn't, then there's a problem elsewhere on the motherboard, possibly in the DC/DC converter circuit.
Check for shorted SMT MOSFETs and blown or failing capacitors.
If you aren't tech savvy, this is not an undertaking for the inexperienced, and you may have to have the unit sent out for repair.
Most places don't do component level repair and will simply tell you that you need a new motherboard.
If you cannot find a service depot near you, you may want to consider going to www.supertech-IT.com and arrange to have the unit sent in.

The power supply cord is very loose and loses connection

Hello kathywadman:
If this is for a laptop it is probably not the cord but the power jack that it plugs into. But I have had a cord go bad at the point that it connects to the plug. Look on the internet and you might find a tutorial on how to fix your DC jack on your laptop. And EBay is your friend when you need to buy the jack.

If this helps don't forget to give the OLE thumbs up a click.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, I purchased a new battery and a new charger and I still getting the message that it's plugged in but not charging. What could be the problem?

Your problem is that the power jack in your actual laptop is loose. it may not seem like it is but one of the 3 connections (positive, negitive, data) that hold the jack to the board broke. In this case its the data connection that tells the laptop what kind of adapter is plugged in, and dell laptops wont charge without knowing that. Solution- 1.Pay someone to replace the power jack 2. If you can solder, by a new jack (around $5) and disassemble the laptop and replace it yourself.

Hum from dell laptop power adaptor when using a sound system

Hi,
as i understand you are facing this hum on all the three AC adapters,
there could be any of the following reasons for that
1) If the laptops were bought within the same period and all the AC adapters came from the same faulty lot

2) Or the AC adapters are made in this way so they produce this hum always

Try calling their Tech support helpline for Dell and see if a replacement can help you or if the AC adapters have a design fault of producing hum is their a solution that they have for it

If you Think my solution was of any help please do rate me

Power cord cuts in and out

There are two places the trouble can be happening, at the adapter plug or at the power jack in the laptop. To determine which one is causing the power loss, hold the plug in the computer steady with your fingers while you wiggle the adapter cable. (If you have access to a voltmeter you can measure the voltage at the plug while you wiggle the cable to see if remains steady.)

If the charge light flickers it's the adapter cord that's bad. Because the wire flexes so much at the plug, it can break inside the insulation and cause the power loss. You either need to replace the adapter or repair it by cutting off the bad end and installing a new plug.

If the charge light remains on with the plug held steady but flickers when you wiggle the plug itself, the trouble is on the main board in the computer. The solder connections at the power jack have broken from the plug flexing and need to be repaired. This involves opening up the computer and getting at the solder side of the main board. It's tedious but relatively simple. If you are not experienced with soldering on small electronics, leave this to a professional shop.

DELL XPS M140 POWER ISSUE

Hi brendanram!

I am claudus_07 and i was a Dell - XPS Technical Support Specialist before so i will be glad to assist you with your concern.

As you said into your post, you tried plugging the AC Adapter to the power source without plugging the other end into the XPS laptop and the Green Light on the adapter is lit. But when you plug the jack on the laptop, the Green light is out. As for my experience on your laptop, there could be a problem with the power supply or the motherboard of your XPS laptop. Because everytime you plug the adapter to the laptop, the green light is going out so it means that the laptop or the adapter is grounded.

Here's what you need you to:

Step 1: Call Dell XPS Technical Support 1-800-624-9896
Step 2: Tell them the issue and the things that youve done.
Step 3: At the end of the troubleshooting, i know that the Technician will either replace the Power Supply, Motherboard, or the Adapter. (if you have a friend that has a Adapter same as yours, you may try to use it just to isolate the issue the Technician will choose from the Power Supply or the motherboard)
Step 4: If the Technician replaces the power supply and the issue still persists, call technical support again and ask them to replace the motherboard, no need to repeat the troubleshooting steps anymore just tell them that youre already done with it. (Dont ask for a system exchange, because i know that they will not give what you want.)

Thanks!
I know it will work. Be Positive!
Your good rating will be very much appreciated.

Good luck and thank you!
