Question about PC Desktops

I have had a virus removed but can not return my computer from default mode to normal operation.O/S XP Professional have tried system restore but to no avail.

Looks like the virus has damaged some sensitive XP files, you need to repair XP using the XP CD. The best way to do these is to use the F3 for repair just after you press F8 for the license agreement

Tuvaro virus, can't remove.


Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer.
As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only
Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode
Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice
select the safe mode option
then run your antivirus if still cant get rid of the virus restart again

This may also help determine the cause of the configuration error.

To perform a system restore, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

2.On the General tab, click Launch System Restore.

3.Select Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.

4.Calendar dates in bold are possible restore points. Click the most recent one to view system restore information.

5.Select a system checkpoint or an installation restore point, and then click Next.

6.Close all other programs.

7.To start the system restore, click Next.

8.Your computer restarts.

Repeat steps 1 through 8 until you fix your configuration issue.

I just had this problem right after my computer got viruses. The screen freezes on desktop after i log in with administrator user, it loads settings but takes mostly 3-5 minutes then the desktop appears...


Hi Cindy,

A couple of initial corrective steps you can try:
1. Boot into Safe Mode and run your Anti-Virus;
2. Boot into "Last Known Configuration that Worked".

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, pls post back that we can figure something else. Additionally any other information that you could post such as Operating System, Anti Virus used etc.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Remove any DVDs or CDs from the optical drives and then unplug all peripheral devices except for the keyboard and mouse.
Click the "Windows" button and then type "eMachines recovery management" into the search box.
Click on "eMachines recovery management" in the results list and then click the "Restore" tab.
Click "Password Settings" and then type a new password into the text box.
Click "OK" and then click "Restore System to Factory Default".
Type the recovery password into the "Password" text box and then click "OK".
Click "Next" To start the recovery process.
Click "Finish" and then wait for your computer to restart.
This procedure could take several minutes.
Once your computer has restarted, you'll be prompted to create a new user account, enter the date and time and set up the internet settings.

or if you are running XP
If you set your machine back to eMachines factory settings, it might help you for a short while but if you don't have effective virus protection your problems will return in short order.

You should get rid of this virus with an effective virus remover.

If you know when you got the virus, you can do a system restore to a time before the virus was on your system.

Windows xp contineous reboot after installation of Avira antivirus


You might have other issues other than antivirus ?
