Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders

7 Answers

Hello, My problem is ; when I start the receiver, it simply freeze, where they no longer respond to any remote command or buttons on the faceplate. The volume knob, the on/off switch... nothing works, but the unit is on. Then once we remove power completely by pulling the plug. After I plug on , the unit starts as same as when it was pulling the plug, and it continues the same freeze situation. Today I found a firmware update on your web page, I will update it this night when I go to home. I am wondering what is the problem. How can I get rid of this problem? It drives me crazy. Could possibly help me please? Yours sincerely.

    Hello,
First of all, thanks for your reply. You mean that there is a hardware problem. I bought it last week. But i can't return it back to the dealer because i bought it from different country when i was on holiday. and it is not easy to send it back.

And i can't dare to open this new device. And also i am not a specialist for this.

The main thing i want to ask that are you sure that the problem is really a hardware problem.

  • mutlu_ekim May 19, 2011

i did the firmware update, but it didnt work.

Nothing changes.I reset from the remote and also from the receiver with holding vcr+ONOFF button. Then I update it with new firmware, and failed again.

  • mutlu_ekim May 19, 2011

i also think that there is a hardware problem. But this recevier does not selling from my country distributer, i bought it from another country. would this be a problem for service, i dont know. is the problem you said is an general problem for the receivers which can be handled by an authorised ONKYO service.

  • mutlu_ekim May 23, 2011

    hello,
i took the recevier to an ONkyo service and we made some tests about the voltage, bu t it worked that time like kidding.I think the problem is not about the voltage.

Did it just start suddenly or it gradually developed. this may most probably turn out to be a hardware problem than software. and would require physical inspection of motherboard components to identify which one is failing. if still under warranty, consider that but if not. then a tech may help better.
thanks

I would update the firmware first and see if that fixes it. It could easily be a firmware issue. What is the model number of the unit and how long have you owned it?
Thank you,
Lee

If you just bought it last week then you will want to return it to the store you bought it from as it would be under manufacturer warranty. all receivers have 2 years parts and labor warranty. visit this link:

    Thank you,

Hi,
This kind of symptoms indicated of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The main processor can't initialize itself because the supply voltage gone to malfunction, that is why the front panel button even the remote control can't access the command.
The common caused of this symptoms is the leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor in that area. It will dropped the normal working voltage of the power supply and will disable the unit. Another caused of the symptoms is the bad solder joints(cracked/dried/cold solder) in that section.
Firmware update will not solve the issue unless the faulty parts is isolated.
If you don't have necessary tools and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the problem or send it in to reputable Onkyo service center.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

    Hello
Before udating the firmware, Check whether your remote control emits ifrared rays or not. i don't know whther you uses its orginal remote control or not. It original remote control number is "RC-807M". If the remote is OK, reset the remote mode to it default remote control code. [1] While holding down REMOTE MODE that you
want to reset, press and hold down HOME until
REMOTE MODE button lights (about 3 seconds).
[2] Within 30 seconds, press REMOTE MODE again.
REMOTE MODE button flashes twice, indicating
that the button has been reset.
Each of REMOTE MODE is preprogrammed with a
remote control code. When a button is reset, its
    preprogrammed code is restored.
    Note
    • The learning command is also reset
You can reset the remote controller to its default settings
1 While holding down RECEIVER, press and hold
down HOME until RECEIVER lights (about 3
    seconds).
2 Within 30 seconds, press RECEIVER again.
RECEIVER flashes twice, indicating that the remote
    controller has been reset.
If these does not help you, just update the firmware. OK.

The system memory IC of your device has damaged I thinks. As the system does not work either from remote or through front panel, this is the only possibility. Your systems circuit is ver complicated one. I advice you toe get it repaired by authorised Onkyo service center nearby you. OK>

Hello --- Onkyo is a standard Japanese company. Their products are very advanced, and so much research is behind is. Each and every model I serviced since 39 years, have entirely different circuit diagams and circuits. Moreover, the system control secion of theirs nor resemble to no other companys'. They uses their own programmed system control ICs and memry ICs, which cannot be bought from open market. That is why I adviced you to get it repaired from the nearest Onkyo authorised service center. If you want to get it repaired by ano other company, contact Sony Authorised service center. They also can do this work. Anyway, its repair is so complicated one, and must have very sophisticated testing equipments and well experienced professionals. If you open it, and look. You will fell I;m right. I've repaired this model. Its system control section is very difficult to follow. Anyone who take this work will take time also. It is a general problem to most of these type of sets, irrespective of which company produces it. i know it is a costly set and its sound quality is great. Both digital and analogue technologies are used it it by Onkyo engineers. So never attempt ot repair this set by yoursef, unless you have a sound knoledge and expereince in repairing this type of sets. There is no problem, about from where you bought this set. it is a world standard set and can be repaired anywhere in this world. Ok

Hi,
This problem can be caused by a corrupted firmware and you can do a firmware upgrade to fix such problem. You can either upgrade using a media (DVD/CD or USB Pen Drive) or your computer network connection (ethernet cable).
As each of the models of these Onkyo Receivers requires a specific step on updating the firmware, I will not be posting the steps here, otherwise we might end up breaking it as you haven't mentioned the exact model of your receiver.
I strongly suggest you to their website by clicking here and look for your specific model of onkyo receiver. This is the website where you can download the specific procedures and the firmware (in .zip format) to update your device.
Read the instructions carefully before you start, the update procedure should take around 60 - 75 minutes.

Hope this helps.

This is a common problem with a couple models. You have 1 or more push switches that are bad. The best thing to do is replace all 19 or 20 of them. It is only a few dollars for all of them combined and they are very easy to replace. They only have 2 legs that need to be un-soldered. The switches are on pc board that is on the face of the unit. I hope this helps you.

A quick trick on the faceplate connectors is to use the eraser of a lead pencil to clean the surface of the faceplate connectors. It could simply be a dirty connection.

Hi we have an Integra DTR-5.4 receiver that "locks up" The unit simply freezes, where it no longer responds to any remote command or buttons on the faceplate. The volume knob, the on/off...

Does this normally happen if you press a few buttons or settings faster in succession? If so then maybe the receiver can't keep up with multitasking or what you would call processing power so maybe just try to not select functions as fast and give it a few seconds in between changing settings before switching to another. my cellphone and receiver will also do this because of lower quality components used in manufacturing. A lot of company's now days to compete with price points are cutting corners so certain components are lacking to keep up with demand of other components in the system.

Error code344 shows that The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the product because the connection was interrupted. The remote user has pressed the Stop button while the remote machine was receiving.
Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

Faceplate not responding / acting very weirdly

Sounds like a bad connection with the faceplate and the multi connector that the faceplate mates with when closed. check for dirt and bent pins on both connectors. Luck
