Question about GE GTS22WCP Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Our refrigerator is cooling and our freezer is freezing, but there is a leak coming from the freezer area that is dripping down into the refrigerator that just keeps getting worse and worse. Appears that it may be coming from the filter area in the middle of the top of the freezer. It started small and dripped down on to the top left shelf, now I am keeping towels on every shelf to keep them somewhat dry. The freezer area appears also to be getting frost on the food as well. model gts22wcp

Hi maabjcraft,

Have you tried clearing the drain tube?

Your refrigerator has a drain that leads to the exterior drain pan beneath the refrigerator. Occasionally this drain can become clogged resulting in standing water inside your refrigerator. A similar drain exists in the freezer, which when clogged results in ice build up on the floor of the freezer.

The drain is located either on the floor of the refrigerator, beneath the vegetable crisper, or in the wall behind a drain funnel.

Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of 1/4 inch or smaller flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Water leaking into refrigerator section from freezer

The drain trough is clogged under the coils behind the freezer wall and also there should be a "p" trap on the back that is connected to the drain tube running to the bottom. Remove trap by turning and pulling being careful not to break the neck. You should be able to blow any debris out. Good luck. Blow don't ****. lol

Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

Water leaking inside of the fridge from the top

It sounds like your frost-free freezer is cycling through its normal defrost mode, which allows the cooling assy. to be deiced and that melted ice (water) will run out and down to the drain in the bottom of your fridge.

Samsung Fridge Freezer leaking water

hi August.
Cause: A blocked defrost drain is one of the most common causes of water leakage. This happens when food particles or other debris clogs up the drain hose, which can lead to ice buildup and, eventually, water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator.
3 common refrigerator problems you can easily fix yourself

The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
How to Fix Water Leaking From the Bottom of Freezer

Why is my fridge leaking water on the floor? If the refrigerator is leaking water it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment, If enough water accumulates in the bottom it can run out onto the floor.
