Most laptop microphones are rather low in quality. Even if you increased the microphone gain it would also heavily increase the noise and interference you are hearing. Your best bet is to purchase a standalone microphone. These are not very expensive and are far better at capturing audio without as much interference.

My compaq presario c700 xp microphon are muted.how to unmuted microphone.

Select the volume icon in the lower tool tray (looks a small speaker) then right click it - select "audio Properties" then "voice" - make sure the correct microphone is selected under "Voice Recording". This will also let you see the volume setting etc and is very easy to work out what is going on - there is even a hardware check option that will let you try the microphone after changing any settings.

Crackling noise and low volume

If the mic is a condensor you would need to have phantom power, or it will not work. Use a small mixer or externat power supply. We here at Pro Line Music Have small mixers that have phantom power. 215-736-8055

Microphone too quiet

That's probably not going to work.
Mic level is extremely low compared with line level.
Your sound card is expecting a line level input.
It's simply not made to plug a microphone into (you must be using an adapter or two just to make the connection)
Look for a USB Audio Interface with XLR or 1/4" microphone inputs - these interfaces are pretty generic these days and easy to use ... just plug into your computer via USB and then plug the mic into the interface ... which has a volume control on it ...
I use a Tapco Link.USB ... and like it

Try on the settings for the sound (next to the time) adjust the microphone volume to lower.

Background Microphone Noise

The problem is that your microphone is generation feedback when the talk because you have the speaker volume turned up. Try lowering the volume. If this doesn't work I suggest you use a set of headphones and it will eliminate this problem completely.
Hope this helps. Bud
