Updating the firmware for your printer will help fix the problem. You will need to get rid of the error first before you can successfully update your printer. Follow the steps below:
1. Open the cover of the printer > Remove the printhead. If the printhead will not go to the center, turn off the printer and pull the printhead to the center. 2. Once you have the printhead removed, close the cover of the printer and turn on the printer. 3. Once you have the printhead removed, close the cover of the printer. 4. It will ask you to "Open Cover to Install the Printhead". Press the Home icon. 5. It should take you back to the Main menu. 6. Proceed with the firmware update. Just go to www.lexmarklabs.com/firmware and choose the model number of your printer. 7. Once the firmware update is successful, go back to step 1 and install the printhead.

If error continues even after updating your printer, it could be due to a faulty printhead. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center or visit Lexmark's website for additional assistance.

After cleaning printhead printer says printhead needs cleaning

If that's the case, the printhead will need to be replaced. If your printer is still under warranty, you can contact our technical support team to have the printhead replaced. If not, you can purchase a printhead online at http://bit.ly/IZYhWo.

Also, make sure that you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges. Refilled/remanufactured cartridges might damage your printhead.

Message on printer screen says "The following printhead(s) has a problem: black/yellow (K/Y).

Hi,

This probably could be defective Printhead ( black/yellow )

Follow the steps below and it should resolve the issue, if not, you need to replace the K/Y Printhead. You can purchase it from any nearest departmental store like bestbuy or costco or walmart etc or Call HP and order one.

Open the front access door. ( printer must be power on )
Remove the Latch of the Printheads
Remove the Printhead
Clean the Contacts with lint free cloth ( golden contacts or electrical contacts / not the nozzles )
Re-install the Printhead back in its position and close the front access door.
The printer usually goes thru initialization process. or Turn off the printer and turn on.
If you still get the error message, Replace the K/Y Printhead.

Regards,
Ron

Message:" There is a problem with the printhead.

Make sure your printer is updated. The firmware update, available in the Lexmark website, will help fix printhead-related problems. Follow these steps: 1. Remove the printhead from the printer.

2. Reset the printer by unplugging the power adapter from the printer (should be the whole black box on the back of the printer), leave it unplugged for about a minute then plug it back in.
3. Once the printer is back on, it will ask for the printhead. Just disregard the message by pressing or CANCEL button on your printer screen. Do not install the printhead yet.
4. Then, please use this link: http://bit.ly/p705fw to download and run the firmware on your computer. Please make sure that the USB cable is attached from the printer to the computer while you do this.
5. Once the firmware update is complete, you may reinstall the printhead.

1 you said the cartridge is low.

it happens because the ink cartridge must have been used for initializing the printer which does take a lot of ink. please purchase a new cartridge and the issue will be resolved.

2 Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
NOTE: If error messages also display on the computer, clear the error messages after each of the following steps. You might have to delete pending print jobs from the print queue on the computer to clear the error messages. Solution : Clean the electrical contacts Follow these steps to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the product. CAUTION: Follow these steps carefully to avoid damaging the sensitive electrical components. Step one: Clean the contacts on the printhead Follow these steps to clean the contacts on the printhead. NOTE: The ink nozzles on the printheads might clog if you expose them to air for more than a few minutes. The ink nozzles also might clog if you do not use the product for long periods of time.
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
  2. Open the top cover of the product.
  3. Press and hold the OK button for five seconds. The carriage moves to the left side of the product. Release the OK button. CAUTION: Proceed only if the carriage is on the left side of the product. If it is not, the printheads will be damaged when you install them. If the carriage does not move over, try turning the product off and on again
  4. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  5. Unplug the product power cord from the electrical outlet. NOTE: Do not turn the product off by pressing the Power button (c01602202.gif ). This causes the carriage to move out of reach.

I have a canon i990 showing "operating error" orange light flashing 5 times

I experienced the same problem with my i990.
Tried everything software-wise, nothing worked. The printhead was not even detected by the printer. I then took it out (remove ink tanks- then open grey lever and simply lift out the printhead) I cleaned the copper electrical contacts at the back with contact spray or penetrating oil on a kleenex tissue and the refitted everything. It works as new.

HP D135 - replaced printhead - still doesn't print in that color

try this link : I followed the directions and fixed the problem. the instructions that came with the new printhead weren't really complete.

Here's essentially all I did for my fix - Opened the printer top, turned the printer off. Removed the "bad" printhead, cleaned the metal contacts on the printhead and printer with windex. Closed the printer. Turned it on. waited for it to reset. Opened the printer. Turned the printer off again. Installed the printhead. Closed the lid. Plugged the printer in again. When it was ready I accessed the HP toolbox and alligned the printheads and cleaned the printheads. It worked. Here's a link with photos.
