The unit can not read the discs. It will search through all 6 positions then quit. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Update this with your results.

The little drive belt that operates the CD lift mechanism is likely busted. I just started looking for belts now.

SOURCE: My Onkyo DVD/CD Player CP704

Hello,

the problem is from the laser (lens) of you player. The lens is weak such that it cannot play DVD's. It still play CD's because the file or data on CD are lighter than that of DVD's. DVD disc carries about 4GB (4000MB) size while CD's carries about 700MB (Less than 1GB). So the laser (lens) is too weak to load files/data on DVD's. It needs to be extra active to be able to load data/files on DVD's.

I hope you understand the point I am tying make.

Now the solution to this problem is to change the laser (lens), that is, the laser (lens) need to be changed/replaced to a brand new one so that is can play DVD's.

Once you have the laser (lens) of your player changed, your player then be able to play DVD's.

Good luck.

  • I have see so much of this problem from these players. When you get so many errors for this CD player/changer the unit is done. Dealers stock these by the hundreds to warranty out. Poor quality and poor quality control.

  • Some people, very few, have had success with removing the radio and removing the connectors for a few minutes and then reconnecting. This may reset the radio and while on occasion this has worked it is a rarity as the problem is due to component defects deep inside the unit.

  • Those that opted to send the radio that were not covered by a warranty often payed $300 - $400usd for the repair. The messed up thing is that despite thousands of these needing replaced they were never recalled and they should have been.

  1. Your choices are to have it replaced under warranty if still under warranty.
  2. Pay the dealership to install a new one for you.
  3. Send the one you have into Ford.
  4. Buy an aftermarket CD player/changer

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYA.

Regards, Tony

C.d.s get stuck and now tray wont close

The problem is in the loading bay, sometimes 2 CD's will get jammed locking up the system, or the timing gear is out of sync, or possible broken gears.

CD tray won't open or close on onkyo dx-c606 cd changer.

Yes! it sounds very likely that a small loading belt has stretched, or the loading motor is not working, this is not an easy repair because the gears are timed and synced to work together, if the unit has a loading belt pull tray all the way out and look in the empty tray, may be visable! if you can remove it without taking it apart all the better, have a Tv repair shop size up the belt for replacement.

My Onkyo DX 6disc CD changer does not open and close without pulling on the carousel and the unit does not raise or set the disc so it does not play any of the discs now. Is it worth trying to get someone...

Hello: Considering the age of the unit, I would say you need new loading gear belt and mech assembly elevator belt. Look inside for any belts that have become to loose to turn pulleys for gears, take off any belts you find and lay on a flat surface and belts that have become egg shaped need replacing, you might also try buying some rubber rejuvenator liquid from a local electronics parts store to restore grip to the belts but new ones is the best way to go..
