Whirlpool gb22dkxgw00 is the model number of the fridge in question. As asked to tbirdfan with a reasonable explaination, I was not aware I could not follow up with questions without an additional charge. Jumping the wires to the defrost timer did not change the behavior and the unit's drain is clear.

You paid for someone to tell you to jump out the defrost timer when all you had to do was advance it with a screw driver to put it into defrost and if you wanted it out of defrost when you heard it click and the fans came on guess what it's out of defrost, you should ask for your money back,i can't believe someone told you to jump out the wires on the timer,if the problem is the compressor isn't running change out the start device like i told you

Testimonial: "I know I only paid five dollars for this follow up, but my "guru" is a little cranky. I do think his advice was helpful."

Thanks for the advice. Is the starting device a capacitor, like on a swimming pool motor?

  • Sal De May 18, 2011

it's an overload and relay,do what i said, unplug it before you damage the compressor, pop off the clip and slide the start device off of the compressor, there's three pins on the compressor and the device connects to it there, slide your device off and shake it,if it makes a rattling sound it's cooked inside,

go here to the sears site, put in your model number, look up the window that says unit and check out the compressor, copy and paste.....http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir... gotta get to bed, gotta get up at 5.let me know how you make out,if i can help you with anything else let me know.

  • Sal De May 18, 2011

when you open the freezer was there any ice on the back inside wall of the freezer,if so you have a defrost problem, bad timer, defrost thermostat or heater, also when you open the freezer door you should hear the fan blowing in the freezer,if not you have a bad evap fan motor, all it does is the freezer gets cold the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer to the fridge side that's it..if the compressor isn't running check the start device

  • Sal De May 18, 2011

a little cranky,i don't get paid to do this,i read that someone told you to take apart a timer and jump out the wires so i tried to help you out, saved you around 200 bucks for the advice not 5 and you're welcome

  • Anonymous May 18, 2011

I copied and pasted the above link and didn't get any results, so I went to the sears parts direct link and found the parts list for my unit. You said "check out the compressor." Is there an area on this website that tells how to check the compressor?
    Thanks

i do this just to help people out,i work on appliances and i know things are tough for everyone so i try to help out a little,i think you can look up my name and click on it and just type what problem you're having and if i know the answer i'd be happy to help you and it's free,i don't know why you had to pay anything like i say i don't get paid to help people out but there is a part of this site that you can ask for assistance and you pay for it,i don't really know how that works,i just come on,i look at the questions and if i think i can help i answer the person, you can ask the fixya people how you can ask for me but like i say i think you can look me up and ask me your question,it stinks that you have a bad compressor, when this happens the last thing it could be is the start device or a bad compressor,at least you tried it to make sure.nice talking with you and like i say if you ever have another problem with your appliances i'd be happy to help.good luck

  • Sal De May 20, 2011

sounds like you have a bad compressor,it would be cheaper to replace the machine instead of repairing it at this point,it would cost around 5 to 6 hundred dollars to replace the compressor.if the compressor is hot or warm it's getting power and the click you hear is coming from the compressor, the lights dim because it's trying to run but something is cooked inside it.i'm sure you wired the start device correctly,to make sure turn the control off,go in the back and have someone turn the control on and have your hand on the compressor,if the clicking is coming from it then it's time for a new machine.

i get your messages and i've been answering you but i think it isn't going through on the other email we were talking on because it says premium next to that and i don't get paid for this i do this just to help people out,you have a bad compressor and it would be cheaper to replace the fridge than to fix it.let me know if you get this message

  • Sal De May 21, 2011

    did you get my messages?

  • Anonymous May 22, 2011

I bought a new starting relay and did not help.

  • Anonymous May 22, 2011

    Hello,
I just stumbled on these messages. I think every time you replied, they sent me an email, and I clicked on the link. It would take me to a page without your recent posts. I thought you stopped writing because of the less than warm review. I appreciate your help. If I can change the review, I will, if you let me know how to do it.

As it stands, nothing I did could diagnose anything except a bad compressor, so we're kicking the unit to the street.

    Thanks Again,
    Kupgas

  • Sal De May 23, 2011

that's ok about the review,i was mad because a tech told you to jump out the timer when all you had to do was turn the knob with a screw driver to take it out of defrost but when it's typed out sometimes it's hard to know how to take it but it had nothing to do with you, unfortunitly it is the compressor and i'm sorry you didn't get my messages before you bought the new start device.good luck with your new fridge

Top of the refrigerator is not cooling and the freezer portion is to cold

Main cooling happens in the freezer.

Since top (fridge part) not getting cooling the sensor in that part is continuously asking for cold. So the freezer get colder and colder.

Fridge part not cooling can be due to one of the many reasons.

Evaporator fan, Defrosting problem, Damper motor issues etc etc.

How to repair an ice maker in whirlpool side by side refrigerator?

For most Whirlpool brand ice makers is is cheaper to replace the core module part number=> 2198597 Ice Maker Assembly Reason being the individual parts add up to more than the cost of all those parts together. Now if interested you can request a Whirlpool Ice Troubleshooting Service Manual by filling out the capsha=> HERE Reason I don't place the manual's here because Whirlpool ask me not to, but I will be glad to send you one. The manual is the solution but the most complete module is the cheapest route. Below is how it is explained a little simpler, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Whirlpool model gb22dkxgw00 bottom freezer working ok but refrigerator is warm i think the fan is not working but how do you get to it?

Good day,
You access the fan motor after removing the rear panel in the freezer compartment.
Changing the motor is pretty much a nuts and bolts job, but like all bottom freezer models it's somewhat akward to remove the shelves ect. to get to the panel.
Time and patience is your friend here.

Whirlpool model gb22dkxgw00 bottom freezer working ok but refrigerator is warm i think the fan is not working but how do you get to it?

you may not be able to get the fan to go . if it is burned out . make sure the fan will turn easy and you can try a jumper cord to run it and if it runs look for thermo that has not reset when cold . ( called the defrost terminator .) poor connections would also caus this .. mm hope some of this will help .

I have a whirlpool side by side fridge. This

On some models you have a mother board located on the back outer section of the refrigerator that can be faulty. There is a tech sheet located behind the kick plate or under the front of the ref bottom to refer to. If someone olays with the digital controls you may have to reprogram the mother board, which is explained in the tech sheet.

Whirlpool fridge GB22DKXGW00 ices up in air channel from freezer up to fridge

99 percent of the time that is from air entering the refrigerator. Make sure the gaskets are all sealing and the doors are shutting completely. Also...there is a return air duct lower in the refrigerator, closer to the bottom.....that has to be defrosted just like the upper one, or it won't work.

Can't find the water filter!

It is possible that everyone has looked up their models and all models fall under different categories. Now I will begin the search foe Melissa Wolf. Everyone go to this web page because to explain every different model will confuse. There are 13 categories of that model and only six are listed a refrigerators. I would choose the refrigerator categories to find pictures and models if you are not sure. And with all appliances this can be confusing. click link below and enter your model number and it will take you to the different category. Enter yours in model search.
