Question about Gigabyte ATI RADEON 6970 HD 880MHz 2GB PCI-Express 2 1 HDMI Video Card

1 Answer

I had a custom built computer that was damaged in shipping: P55A-UD4, i7 860, ATI HD 5870, 8GB ram, Windows 64 bit, 120GB SSD running 3 monitors (2x20" 5:4, 24" 16:10). It would start-up but fail within a minute or 2 (seemed to be overheating. Had Geek squad do diagnostic. Said the PCI slot on mb and graphics card were dead. Replaced mb with P55A-UD4P and graphics card with HD 6970. now trying to run 3 montirs (2x20" 5:4, 30" 16:10). Completely reinstalled windows and all software/drivers. 1 of the 2 side monitors is off-color, flickering and fuzzy. when I switch the cords at the card the problem switches to the other monitor. I assumed I had a bad port on the 6970, so I returned it for another. Same problem. I have now switched the graphics card to the other PCI slot and still have the same problem with the same port. 20" monitors with DVI, 30" with dp (with mini-dp to dp adapter). So not the monitors or cords, tried 2 6970 cards. tried both slots on mb. What could be causing this? PLEASE any help would be great, I am at the end of my rope

With everything you have i would look at power supply and see if you have enough power supply to operate video card motherboard etc.
Power supply could be overloaded and not able to operate video card correctly.
Which could cause issues with trying to run 2 or 3 monitors

HOW OFTEN??Should you defragment?Do I have a HDD or SSD hard drive??How do I find out??Does defraging SSD destroy your hard drive quicker?

If you use a proprietary defrag system like iobit.com, defragging everyday keeps the filing cabinet in good order cutting down on search time and saving wear on the hdd. If you download
Speed Up Slow Computer Keep PC and Internet Secure Freeware Download IObit
It will sort out your SSD or HDD for you automatically. We can only tell the type of drive from the computer information list that we cannot see because it is on your computer.

Hi!... I am using window 7 ultimate 64 bit. I am facing the problem of full HD. earlier when me using window Vista that has been ok. If there is any solution plz let me know!.. thanks Moiz Raja

windows 7 os requires atleast 16GB avilable space while windows vista requires atleast 15gb. It could be true that your system requirements are not sufficient for the new os you want to install
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

  • DVD-ROM drive

If you want to run Windows Vista on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) of system memory (512 megabytes (MB) for Home Basic)

  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)

  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory (32 MB for Home Basic)

  • DVD-ROM drive
