It may also be related to the battery pack's contact in the compartment or even inside the pack. The individual cells are spot-welded together and I suspect not all that well in China.

The query posted by me on variable speed trigger was not related to LOCKS. That was a mistake and I apologise for that. The query was regarding a power drill of Black and Decker

The switch would need to be replaced as they are not repairable. I would find the part number and using Google search by the part number for someone that may have one for sale. Not much else I can do to help you as I can't get info on non USA tools and I am a DeWalt/B&D dealer.

I have a makita 18v impact driver that is 4 months old. I dropped it off of a 6 foot ladder today, and it stopped working. The light turns on when i pull the trigger, but a foul smell of burnt plastic

You may have damaged the brush holder, broken some tabs off that hold the field in place or knocked the armature out of alignment. All of these parts work under very close tolerances and if out of alignment will lock the motor up. If you pull the trigger the light will be able to work but since the armature can't turn, heat will build up in the motor very fast and you'll get the burning smell. You may get away with replacing the brush holder or housing but if the burning smell is actually coming from the armature, you'll have to replace that.

Hi my 18v xrp combi drill which is about 18 months old seems to have problems with the trigger. At times the speed of drilling is very slow but can suddenly speed up without any additional pressure on the...

YES. You have dirt and grime inside.Go to a Lowes or Home depot and look in the nail gun dept. Get a can of Paslode tool cleaner.( white aerosol can with orange and black label) $8 a can. While running tour drill,(over a sink or outside) spray it all inside aroud trigger and motor, turn in all directions and watch how much gunk will wash out. You'll be suprised at what a difference this will make and it will prolong the life of your tool. Works great on all battery powered tools and air tools ! I highly recommend it, but don't buy them out of it , leave some for me. I;m allmost out of it.

I have a DewaltDC900KL cordless drill that will not work. The motor will not spin when I press the trigger switch. What could be the problem?

dewalt cordless drill and drivers are well known for the trigger switches to just quit , and the only way to fix them is a new switch .pull side cap off,. which is held in place with a couple screws . unplug the two wires going to it plug them in new switch ,pretty easy no surprise.

How do you know if the trigger is bad? getting dc volts to trigger but nothing out when I press it.

It's not unusual for Dewalt triggers to go bad and it appears you have correctly tested the trigger. You can test the motor by wiring it directly to the battery but hold on to it and only give it a short burst of power so it doesn't spin out of the case. Dewalt triggers are fairly easy to find online but shop around, they're not cheap.

Drill is running but chuck is not turning, appears dis-connected ! Can still put drill bits in but no power to chuck when trigger pressed, although sounds and feels as if working.

This drill must have a morse taper shank on the drill itself and has to be tapped on w/ a soft face hammer to seat it on the morse tapered shaft on the drill. clean the taper really well on the drill end and the taper inside the drill chuck and tap together.

Must pull the trigger every time to shoot a nail, should be able to hold trigger and tap where i want the nail.

On some models the contact fire is not available. There is a flap that is under the actual trigger. When you press the safety in, it engages this little flap which allows the trigger to be engaged. As soon as the safety comes up this little flap falls back down disengaging the trigger.

There is an optional trigger assembly that you can put on this nailer. You need parts 174299 and 174300 to make this gun a contact nailer.
