The compressor in the fridge energises for a constant 30 mins in every 90 mins. Is this normal?

depending on door seals and the number of times the door is opened and the temp setting on the thermostat and the positioning of the fridge it could be considered normal
see if you can get an idea of the cycle times at night when the fridge is not being opened and the room is cooler if the temp setting is close to 32 or zero celsius then the fridge works hard to maintain that low setting but if the setting is higher say 5 degrees celsius it runs a lot easier
the problem with fridges is that every time the door is opened , all the cold air falls on the floor and the motor has to run to fill the fridge with cold air again
fridges that are full of food maintain their cold better than empty fridges

Kenmore 253.64802400 this fridge keeps running all the time and at long periods of times. Food is kept cold but it keeps running. How long is the average run cycle in a fridge. I've seen times the fridge...

Hello James;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Good for you. You purchased a simple unit that does not have all of the buzzers and fancy controls that can go wrong.

The normal cycle of your unit is the temperature will rise to 20 degrees above set temperature and then shut down, until you reach 20 degrees below set temperature.

Your problem is you have a bad door seal. Your compressor is running trying to maintain the set temperature.

Ok, lets fix this problem:

1.) There are two screws in the bottom front of your refrigerator.
You want to turn these screws clockwise to raise the front of the refrigerator so it is pitched slightly back. This will assist in maintaining a good seal.
2.) Wet the door gaskets. With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, heat the door gaskets up pulling them out with the spatula trying to expand the crushed gasket.

If you have a bad gasket. It is easily replaced , a grooved slot. Pull out the old gasket and insert the new one.
Heat the new gasket in hot water for 30 minutes. Form and expand it with your hair dryer and spatula.

25605805-3lxxwax0f0xbqftwrz0flikt-2-0.jpg 2.) Lets finish the job: After time the door gaskets become crushed and do not maintain a good seal, so you have to recondition them. Inspect the door gasket, are there cracks and worn sections? With a hair dryer and spatula, heat the gasket while using the spatula to expand

This fidge is always running and for long periods of times. What is the average run cycle on a fridge for time??

the time is irrelevant. the running time depends on the thermostat setting To low a setting and the motor will run continuously, in the fridge and if the door seals are any good
Is the door being properly closed or left just not quite closed
How long and how many times is the door opened . run a series of checks before you get a technician out as most problems are "hand " made

Banging noise occurs from inside the top left side of the refrigerator compartment them the unit is running

It's from freezer fan which was disturbed to function due to over ice formation around freezer. It happens due to defrost cycling malfunctioned. Unplug fridge for defrost the system After some times run the fridge. Please check the fan leaves for not broken. Actually, it's time being solution. For permanent solution, check defrost timer, thermostat and defrost heater are working properly. Keep thermostat setting at 5 degree.Thanks.

How to set the defrost timer on a KitchenAid Side-by-side frig?

It doesn't and shouldn't matter as all fridges with a mechanical defrost timer will run through a complete refridgeration and defrost cycle according to the manufacturer's factory design.

It doesn't have to correlate to your local time, since all defrost cycles for self-defrosting units operate based on the manufacturer's specs for how often the unit needs to go into a defrost cycle to prevent ice build up in the freezer.

Your fridge will adjust properly, once it gets cold enough and begins the specified operation and pre-determined cooling and defrost cycling.

What is normal running on/off time?

Fridge is perfectly OK. The on-off cycle depends on the physical load i.e. how much the fridge is stocked up with. A little heavy load would explain the cycle of on-off. Its normal and no need to do anything other than what u generally do, as mentioned, so carry on ......sodeep

modern day fridges with 134a tend to run more than older units but use very little electricity if the freezer and fridge temps are fine and the doors are sealed i wouldn't be too concerned running times vary with things like temp settings how many time the doors are open etc but when running they use about as much power as a 100 watt light bulb

Model # PLFU1778ES Fridgidaire

tilting it would not do any harm while running the tilting theory is if you lay a fridge over on its side the oil in the compressor can run into the suction tubing and it is recomended not to plug it in right away . this is to alow the oil time to run back into the compressor housing. did you posibly loose some air space around the freezer. refrigeration is all about the removal of heat. if you block the air flow around the unit it may not be able to aceave the low teperatur set points. hope this helped
