Question about Mitsubishi CS-35503 TV

1 Answer

1991 CS3515R has vertical instability. (picture often flips vertically. Seems worse when there is more light color on the screen. I remember old sets that had horrizontal and vertical stability controls. This does not. Anything I can do that would be cost effective? Otherwise it gets a beautiful picture.

Does this set have a vertical stability control knob? You mentioned one. Is it inside the TV? If so where is it. Is this something I can get to without killing myself? Otherwise, how mich would i have to pay someone to fix the electronic problem you mentioned? Are the parts needed available? Is this worth doing? Or should I junk the set if there is no "Knob" inside that can fix the problem. Thanks.

By stability control do you mean the V-hold knob inside the tv? If not then the only way to fix this is to find the source of the fault in the deflection circuits. Be wary that this is a high voltage circuit and should not be handled unless you have prior experience in working on electronics. The HOT probably needs to be replaced as this is the most common cause of the problem and it requires soldering skills too.

I am not sure your tv has one. Since the tv is pretty old I cannot find a service manual. However you can turn off the tv and carefully remove the back cover and just LOOK for a two knobs . One will be marked V-hold and other H-Hold. It will be near the on a board on the chassis not on the CRT tube(avoid the tube it is the most dangerous part in a CRT tv). If you can't find one you will have to test the horizontal and vertical output transistors and replace them if necessary. A tech should do this for you for about 100-150$

Picture problems

There is a problem with the vertical circuit. Eventually th foldover will get worse. If you are comfortable working inside the set, with a little investigation, you should be able to resolve this yourself. If you would like to attempt the repair, update this and I'll provide additional details and instructions. Realize that this will take a few interactions to locate the defective part.

Vertical color lines

I had the same thing happen to me this morning. I turned on the TV and it had colored vertical lines through the whole screen. I called Sony and they had me unplug the TV for about 15 minutes. This solved the problem. They said the boards just needed to be reset. It fixed the problem and I am happy with my Sony once again.

Magnavox 25inch TV picture problem

That's a vertical deflection problem and is probably caused by a capacitor going bad in the vertical stages or the power supply stages that supply the vertical IC . And you're right, as the cap dries out more, it'll only get worse.

There is a company called PTS Electronics that rebuilds main boards and sells them on an exchange basis. You might check into that, but you really need to have a little knowledge about that stuff to install a main PCB.

You'll need the part number off the board.

Hope that helps...

Vertical hold adjustment

Loss of vertical sync or any other problem with your Mits is
likely caused by bad power supply capacitors....they are made by Rubicon and are notorious "leakers"......very tedious and
expensive to fix...................good set back in the day.......T.

Picture shows only about a 2-3" blue, green,or red vertical line down the middle

If your seeing vertical line across the screen you need to check the components in the vertical stage as well as the vertical IC could be bad, or the yoke could open.
Also check if any voltage reaching the vertical stage.

Good luck.

Picture flipping

The P52940 uses the 195 series chassis. The vert/hgt control is for vertical height. It adjusts the size of the picture from top to bottom. If your picture is flipping, it most likely means that something is wrong in the vertical circuits. I have seen fluid leak out of one of the CRTs and drip down on the vertical output IC, causeing the picture to go crazy vertically. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech experienced in the RCA 195 chassis.
