Restore to factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name, phone number, speed dials, and any stored faxes in the product memory.

CAUTION: This procedure also clears all fax numbers and names that are associated with one-touch keys and speed-dial codes, and deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the product.

1. On the product control panel, press the Setup button.

2. Use the arrows buttons to select the Service menu, and then press the OK button.
3. Use the arrows buttons to select the Restore Defaults

HP Laserjet Pro M1536 will not initialize

As far as i know if the printer does not initialize it is due to bad formatter board assy. Hence you just need to disconnect the formatter assy cable and try to turn on the printer if the engine initilize then you need to replace it with a new one.

Hp laser jet m1536dnf MFP won't send fax comm error 388

You can start by making sure that the photocopy is working, this is to ensure that the scanner is working. Next, try to isolate the issue if this is only happening to only one fax number? If all of these have negative results, I suggest for a hardware reset. Follow the steps for reset found here, How to Reset the HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer. Goodluck :)
