Question about Kenwood KNA-G510 GPS Receiver

Garmin's KNA-G510 won't find satellites unless I tell it I'm in another state and it expands satellite search

Up until a few months ago my Kenwood 6019 with Garmin KNA-G510 worked great. It found satellites within a few seconds and all was well. Then all of a sudden, it just stopped working. It would search forever, then give me a message saying poor satellite reception. I learned that if I pressed NO to the are you indoors question and NO to the are you in Rhode Island (the state I am in) it would EXPAND satellite searching and then ultimately find satellites. Then the thing works fine. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!?!?! Is it something I pressed? Can I get this thing to always used the expanded satellite search mode? It's just frustrating I always have to press NO and NO and wait like 5 minutes to get the maps up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I encountered the same problem immediately after taking my vehicle through a car wash where I also got the interior cleaned. The unit was off - could spray from the cleaning solution affected this? All other features work fine.

I updated to the latest firmware and my unit is working perfectly now. I'd suggest going to 3.60 if you haven't already. You can download the software here.. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00495-00

I have the g510 with a kenwood head unit. On the satellite screen, on the left it only shows one satellite and on the right it is showing that there are upwards of six or so satellites that it is receiving reception from. I thought it might be the antenna, so I bought a new one. Still having the same problem. It cannot find my location. I've updated the software, I don't know what to do!!

You need to purchase the "hideaway navigation system" Model KNA-G510 separately for your stereo in order for navigation to work. Here's the link, just copy and paste

Visit www.kenwoodusa.com for latest firmware updates. Some of the updates are specific to map software (Garmin for KNA-G510) or bluetooth (Parrot for KCA-BT200) only.

Kenwood KNA-G510 antenna?

After contacting Kenwood tech support several times, a tech finally came out and said if the unit is under warranty send it back to them and they will swap it since they do not repair it. If the Unit is out of warranty, then contact Garmin. When I contacted Garmin, the tech stated that Kenwood is pulling a fast one instead of standing behind their product. So who actually owns this product Kenwood or Garmin? Both names are on the product, but no one wants to repair it. Anyway to make a long story short there is a new update for this product 3.60 as of Feb 2008, downloaded and the unit works fine. Should resolve this issue.
