Question about Frigidaire Washing Machines

My daughter slammed the door shut on our frigidaire affinity model ltf6700fs0 breaking the plastic striker on the door. we ordered and installed a new part but the washer still doesnt work. It has a digital display that still says dr indicating a problem with the door although it seems to close fine.

Thank you Kevin! Do you know if this is a part we can order and repair ourselves or do we need to call a repairman in? (Neither my wife nor I are mechanically inclined).

Hello, Welcone to FixYa. I'm not sure if you are aware of it, but the plastic striker is there to not only lock the door but activate the machine once locked. Chances are the latch/switch assembly was damaged as well and will require replacing too. The part can be had on-line or many local part vendors and It really isnt too difficult, the greatest challenge being the removal and re-fastening the door bellows/boot gasket spring. I do have a pretty descriptive instruction if you think you'd like to attempt it. Let me know what you find and I will help going forward any way I can. I hope that helps. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

Here is the additional info I said I could provide but was unable to from my iphone last evening. It should guide you in replacing the switch assembly.

I know most folks will rule out the lock initially because the unit does indeed "lock", however, the lock on these machines are a two part device, a set of contacts to lock and a secondary contact to activate hi-speed spin, i.e.

**Unplug the unit from the wall first...safety first**

**The door latch is likely the single most common fault (which prevent's any spin, and consequently drenching wet clothing at the end of the cycle) with the frigidaire/electrolux built washer's, ASIDE FROM PUMPS BEING OBSTRUCTED.**

You should be able to purchase one at most local brick & mortar stores or on-line part's depot's such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclininc.com" to name a couple. They usually sell for about $50 or so, part # 1531974 ( # at repairclinic.com ) and are relatively easy to replace.

As for replacing said switch, There are a couple ways to access it, through the top and squeezing your arm down the front or the way I prefer, remove the front bellows spring/retainer.

    1) **UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE WALL OR TURN OFF THE BREAKER.**

    2) Remove the spring, get it started where the spring is located with a small screwdriver. Once you`ve got the spring/retainer off ( it comes off and on pretty easy by hand ) pull the gasket/bellows back away from the cabinet.

    3) Undo the two screws holding the switch to the cabinet, pull the switch out ( there is just enough slack in the wires so don`t pull too hard ) and swap the wires from the old assembly to the new one and you`re in business.

    4) To put it back together, just reverse the removal procedure. The trickiest part is the retainer. Rap the retainer around the boot leaving the spring for the last...and make sure the spring is located at the 6 o`clock position...usually. Just wherever it was initially.

Let me know if you need further assistance going forward or if my instructions are not clear.

Thank's again for visiting FixYa today. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is with the door lock assembly that also needs replacement. If that is bad the control detects that the door is open and so will display the error code. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Door open error shows even when door is securly closed. Is most likely a faulty door latch and lock mechanism, or sensor. Any suggestions to repair without calling in an expensive repair person?

here is a website that has the parts break down. it should be a striker and door switch/lock that are the problem.
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5151098&diagram_id=1238997

check to see if the door striker is ok it has two prongs on the door that go into the machine.
when the door is closed the striker goes into the switch.
hope this helps

The door on my fridgidaire atf8000fs1 sags so it doesn't shut correctly. I've had to order a new door striker since the last one broke off. How do I adjust it so it hangs correctly?

Frigidaire washer door sagging so strike and door lock not lining up correctly. After a period of time front load washer doors tend to start to drop below normal position. The glass in the front doors are very thick, heavy and only supported by plastic inner frame. This combined with continued opening and closing will over time make your front load door start to sage. Fortunately Frigidaire makes a door shim kit for this problem.

After you have ordered and received the shim kit part #137309800. Start with removing the three screws holding the door to the machine. Lay the door face down on a soft surface as to no scratch the front of the door and glass. Remove the screws securing the outer frame and with a very small flat screw driver shim it between the inner and outer panels. Make sure to note the position of the frame and glass. Next remove the inner plastic frame, you should have access to the hinge at this point. Install the shim kit according to the instructions that come with the kit. Reinstall the hinge, inner frame and screws. Install the door back onto the washer, your door strike and lock should line up in the correct position at this time.

My washer door isnt staying locked

Your probably need to replace the door striker (two pronged plastic prongs) thats attached to the door with two screws, or, the door switch. The door switch can be accessed by taking off the top lid and removing the two screws in front of the machine. The switch is a whole lot more expensive than the striker. Be sure to pay attention on how the switch is wired!

MY AFFINITY WASHER WONT WORK

It is the door lock that may be broken, that's what happened with my maching last summer. The lock is made of plastic if you can imagine. So if you slam the door it can break. A washing machine gets wear and tear how can closing a door be owners fault?

This is a crappy machine in terms of maintenance, it is a maintenance nightmaire!!
