Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I am changing my ink cartridges for the first time. When I printed out an ink detail it showed I could use either black PG-30 or PG-40. The 40 cartridge is a little larger than the 30 that is in the printer. Is it OK to use the 40 in place of the 30? I'm afraid it won't fit & don't have the resources to purchase another cartridge if this one doesn't work, so don't want to try installing it unless I'm sure it will work, as I may be able to return the 40 in exchange for the 30. Thanks!

According to Canon, and a number of aftermarket suppliers, yes, you can use either one.
This is not uncommon, almost every printer out has the choice of a "standard" or "High Yield" cartridges.
Where it seats in the print head assembly is the same, even though to tank is larger.

How to use canon pixma mp 210 How can i print using only black and not having the color ink cartridge in as well? is this possible, or must there always be a black cartridge and a color cartridge installed...

With respect to Canon MP210 color usage during greyscale printing: Unfortunately, with many of the newer inkjet printer models & printer drivers, printing in greyscale actually consumes more color ink than normal draft printing. If you wish to save on color ink, it is suggested to do one of the following as available in your specific printer driver/software:
-Print in Normal - Draft mode (or super draft if available), plain paper.
-Print in Black & White mode only* - Draft mode on plain paper (typically this is the best way to save on ink/printing costs).
-For internet page printing, print using CleanPrint (3rd party software for printing most internet-based content from all major internet browsers. NOTE: not affiliated with Inkjet411):http://www.formatdynamics.com/cleanprint-4-0/
-Keep printer on at all times; power up cycles typically consume large amounts of ink (per Consumer Reports, Aug 2013 issue).

    * Most printer models will still consume a small percentage of color ink due to normal ink/printer maintenance, such as between job 'spitting'. The purpose is to ensure the printhead is maintained to avoid clogging.

Regarding Canon PG-30 or CL-31 cartridge repurchase or ink cartridge refilling, if you unable to find a retail / refill store close to you and you are trying to cut ink costs, may we suggest you try a remanufactured ink cartridge from http://www.inkplicity.com/ as their ink cartridges typically have the lowest cost in the USA, have a high reliability rating, come with a 1-year warranty and provide free shipping for all orders above $20 (available to US residents only).

Just replaced ink cartridge and still says cjeck ink and it will not print

did you get a brand name canon pg40 or pg 50 ink cartridge, i replaced the one at works black cartridge with an eco refilled cartridge and it still showed up empty even though i know it wasn't. its canons way of making sure you buy canon. there are ways around it though. hit menu navigate to "rx settings" hit okay then hit okay on "autoprint rx" make sure it is set to on and hit okay, then make sure "print when no ink" is also set to on and hit okay again. it will now automatically print even if the machine thinks there is little or no ink. cheaper knock off cartridges here we come!

I just inserted a black PG 40 ink cart and theres an error coed 5 indicating that i need to insert a color cart. i set my ink stat to black only and gray scale and it still wont pint

I think you need to have both cartridges in your printer in order to print. If you have put the PG-40 only, the printer can't connect the electric circuit and won't work. Canon's manual explains the error code: the ink cartridges are not installed, or a non supported ink cartridge is installed or the ink cartridges are not installed properly.
So, my guess is either to pop in a Cl-41 and print or, if both cartridges are in, remove them from the printer and gently clean the electric circuit on them with a dry cloth. You can also clean the cartridge carrier. Put the cartridges back in and try printing. If that doesn't work, try holding the "resume" button (triangle in circle) for about 10 sec for each cartridge, that should reset them.

Hope that will help solve your problem!

yes because u installed both cartridges. if you only installed the color it will still print black by mixing the three colors (known as composite black) try to change the black first or remove it and use the composite black to print black text.

Have changed Ink Black and Colour... Stil getting error Message.

Make sure the tape covering the hole on the bottom of the black cartridge is removed. and then go into the printers folder and right click on your printer icon and go into the properties of that printer and there should be something in there to tell it that you changed cartridges and you can also print a test page as well.

Help me pls...

First of all to make your ink last longer you need to be using the Canon PG-40 and CL-41 instead of the Canon PG-30 and CL-31. The 40's are the higher capacity versions of the 30's. If you mean to ask why your color cartridge is going empty when you don't print much color, it is because when you print in black and white your printer mixes in some color with the black. There is no way to stop your printer from mixing color ink with the black.

Ink cartage

This printer will take either the PG-30 or PG-40 (larger size) cartridges for black ink, and either the CL-31 or CL-41 (larger size) cartridges for color ink.
