Question about Oster 12-Bottle Wine Cellar - Black

I REMOVED AND REPLACED THE FUSE AS DESCRIBED IN SEVERAL SITES. IT WAS BLOWN. I SOLDERED A FUSE HOLDER THAT I GOT FROM A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. THE FUSE IS AN 8 AMP FUSE; THE CLOSEST THEY HAD TO THE SIZE THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT. THE UNIT STILL HEATS UP TO 90 DEGREES.

As a complete novice, I am unsure how to test the temp control board. Is it possible and practical to get a new circuit board and replace the old one?

I'm sure the information is good. As a novice I don't know where to go next. New compressor? New temp control board. How does one test the compressor? Control board? Are these items still available? I've heard that the manufacturer (not Oster) is no longer in business. Any info would be helpful

I have a felling your temp control board went out, the fuse does not blow for just anything. and seeing how you have a temp problem now. Make sure your compressor is working the fuse you put in is much higher then the one that comes in the cooler and being that it is a higher fuse it may not blow. The first thing you need to find out is why did it blow the fuse?! find the that and you have found your problem

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. The relay is a small usually black cube shaped electrical part plugged into the compressor or wired to it nearby. It may appear burnt or rattle when shaken if it's bad. The two connections should show continuity with an amp meter. If it's good then it's most likely the compressor causing the problem.

Replaced a blown fuse and it blew again

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You or a friend should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

The fuse holder may be loose buy fatigue.

With the microwave unplugged, if you can easily turn the fuse with your thumb & forefinger while it's in the holder, it has overheated and fatigued and the holder should be replaced.

Simply squeezing the holder's terminals together with pliers is not solution. Metal fatigue is permanent.

When a connection is loose, heat results, which eventually melts the fuse internally.

This is usually evidenced by a very tiny ball of solder at the point where the end cap meets the body of the fuse.

You can use a generic holder - it's a lot cheaper than an OEM part.

The connectors should be 1/4" tabs and it should be rated at 20 amps or better.

You should be able to get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.

Power window fuse

1

Open the driver's side door to your Impala. Make sure that the car is parked and turned off. To be safe, wait a few minutes after turning off the car to discharge any stored electricity. If you have the ability to turn off the dome light, you can also do that as an added safety measure.
2

Locate the fuse box panel. The panel is located on the end of the dashboard; while the door is closed, it is flush against the door. It has letters engraved into the plastic that read "Fuses" and a small indentation in the center. Place a finger in the indentation and pull to remove the fuse box cover. If this is the first time you have changed a fuse, it may be difficult to remove. You can use a small flathead screwdriver to help pry it from the dashboard. Be careful not to force it; you could break the clips holding the fuse box panel on.

Examine the chart printed on the inside of the fuse box cover. This is a map of the fuses inside the box and the electrical components to which they correspond. The top of the map corresponds to the row of fuses closest to the hood of the car and running vertically. By looking from the map to the fuse box, you should be able to determine which fuse powers the malfunctioning component. If you do not see the component listed, replace the fuse box cover, open the passenger-side door and open the fuse box on that side. There is another set of fuses on that side of the car.
4

Find the white plastic fuse grippers inside the fuse box. They are located above the fuses, but below the bundles of wiring, and stick out handle-first toward you. By pinching the end closest to you and tugging, you can remove them from their holder. Be sure to take note of where they should go, so you can return them later.
5

Snap the fuse grippers onto the blown fuse. Holding them firmly in the middle of the grips, tug the fuse out of the box toward you. It may take some pressure, but the fuses are durable and can withstand pulling. If the fuse grippers are coming loose from the fuse, move your fingers closer to the fuse and grip more tightly.
6

Find a replacement fuse. There are several fuses provided inside the plastic fuse box cover. Check the blown fuse to see if there is a match. If so, remove it from the fuse box cover. If not, take the blown fuse to an auto parts store and ask the employees to help you find the right replacement.
7

Push the replacement fuse firmly into the fuse socket. You will feel it snap into place when you have pushed far enough. Place the fuse grippers back into their holder, and replace the fuse box cover. Turn on the car and see if your electrical component is functioning again. If so, you are finished, and you may discard the blown fuse according to your local ordinances. If not, the problem is more complex than a blown fuse, and you may want to take your car to a qualified mechanic.

While riding bike it cut out and the ignition wont light up even after turning it on and off.

Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. On top of the solenoid is the main fuse for the motorcycle. Pull out the fuse and check it . Normally when everything shuts off the way you describe the problem is just a blown fuse. There should be a spare fuse stored right there or in the main fuse box. Be sure and buy some spare fuses to replace the blown one at at auto store or the local dealer. If you do not have a spare purchase some and carry them in your tool kit.

None of the power windows work

Hello Jstefan68,
Check the power window fuse in the under-hood power distribution center (fuse box) It should be a red 50A fuse in the corner, position #12. (See Image, taken from www.wjjeeps.com)
a46b392.jpg
  • Turn off the car and remove the keys.
  • Remove the fuse and examine it.
  • If it is blown, Goto your local auto parts store and buy the replacement.
  • Install the replacement, enjoy the windows.

  • If it is not blown, or blows again immediately upon installation, you will have to perform several more checks (continuity, ground, etc.) If you are not handy, find someone who is, or take it to a shop as this is a long process...

Best of luck!

No power both fridge and freezer i dont know how to check if the fuse is blown

replacing the mother board is the option that a repair person uses if they are authorized to Repair LG parts. on the back of the unit there is a square plate remove it and you will see the mother board. on the bottom right of the mother board is the culprit fuse. its soldered in. you will have to go to an electronic store and get another fuse and either replace it or have them replace it for you. i went to radio shack and picked up the fuse holder, soldered it in and in the future will only need to replace fuse.

How do i change the fuse in my mw1030wa wave?

You didn't indicate what the problem is and it may not be a blown fuse causing it.
Things to check: make sure the outlet has power with another appliance; make sure that if the voltage is missing that it doesn't come from a tripped ground fault interrupter.
If these check out OK, pull the plug, remove the back panel to view the insides. Look for a fuse holder, remove the fuse and take it to an appliance repair shop or chain home improvement store for a replacement; buy two.
Replace the blown fuse and try it. If it blows a second fuse, the high voltage rectifier for the magnetron may be shorted. Keep the 2nd replacement fuse, but don't put it in until the problem is found.
This, you can only check with a simple multimeter, analog or digital makes no difference.
You can buy these handy items at Radio Shack, auto parts stores or a home improvement store. If you buy one, choose digital over analog.
They should NOT cost more than $20 and I have several for which I paid under $10, two of them only $3.
The diode can be in several different cases so describing them isn't better than a guess. They will normally be encased in black epoxy but can be square, rectangular, cylindrical.
Measure on the range marked with a arrow-like symbol with a bar across the pointed end.
If the rectifier (diode) is good, it should read about 500-700 on the display or something very high resulting in an overflow reading and the opposite when the lead polarity is reversed.
If you find one of these and it is bad, you will not likely find these in most stores since they are not used in many items, the microwave oven is the most common place they are used. They will normally have some kind of type number printed on the case and you need this for your search. There may be two groups of characters, one of them a 4-digit group (for example: 0532 would mean 2005, 32nd week) that is often only the date code and useless for the search. You can enter the number in any search window and probably find at least a couple of suppliers but many of them will have minimum charges.

My LG refrigerator has a blown fuse on the circuit board. Is the fuse replaceable, it looks as though it is soldered to the board?

Yes. This fuse is replaceable, but, you will heed to De-solder the contacts, in order to remove the damaged fuse. this can be very challenging. If you are not an avid user of a soldering iron, i would just simply replace the board. If the soldering is not done correctly, this will cause the board to short, causing a spark.

I would , also, verify that the fuse is available for a non technician to purchase. Most vital components will not be available for purchase, if the purchaser is not a certified tech.

As soon as I touched a key on the keypad the whole thing went black and nothing works. I assume it is the control panel. Is there a fuse in there I can check?

If it blew as soon as you hit Start or another pad which would make it start, then I would suspect you have a shorted high voltage capacitor.

In some cases a loose fuse holder will cause the fuse to melt open after so long.

With the microwave unplugged, if you can easily turn the fuse with your thumb & forefinger while it's in the holder, it has overheated and fatigued and the holder should be replaced.

Simply squeezing the holder's terminals together with pliers is not really a good or long-term solution. Metal fatigue is fatal.

When a connection is loose, heat results, which eventually melts the fuse internally.

This is usually evidenced by a very tiny ball of solder at the point where the end cap meets the body of the fuse.

You can use a generic holder - it's a lot cheaper than ordering one. The connectors should be 1/4" tabs and it should be rated at 20 amps or better.

You should be able to get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.

open by unscrewing screws on back and along left side bottom. this lets you swing up the cabinet showing the electrics. the red power line going to the timer is held in place by a metal wire holder that is riveted to the base. wire has a white sleeve between its insulation and the metal wire holder. slide wire and sleeve out to the side of the holder. slide sleeve to side along wire, revealing fuse. need a solder iron and an electronic parts store to get replacement fuse and solder it in. reassemble.

the fuse is a resistor that blows when unit is getting hot. use lower resistance fuse or just hardwire the power line straight through, no fuse, but watch for overheating (not likely) and maybe use breaker outlet
