Question about Fantech (ser2004n) Air Purifier

2 Answers

Of the pannel on a Fantech SHR 2005What is the function of the "current switch". When is it activated? What are the "COM" and "IN" terminals connected to? i.e. do you short the COM to IN to turn off or do you connect a "" to IN to turn off.

The suggested schematic shows only the external details ( I have that manual. It came with the unit and is freely available on the web.) The described switch sets the low ("standby") speed to Low, Off, Medium. The same manual shows the Dehumidistat, On/Off unit(MDEH2) connected with 4 wires; two to the DEHUM terminals. When these terminals are shorted the unit is forced into high speed mode. The other two wires are connected to the CUR SW terminals. Since only one On/off controller can be connected, I presume (but do not know - hence my question) if shorting the +, COM terminals is supposed to stop the unit. This could likely be determined if I had the schematic for the control unit

My question is how to turn the unit off remotely.

The humidistat forces it into HI when on demand,. When the humidistat is satisfied or the DEHUMID terminals are open, It switches into LOW (or such as the standby switch is set). It appeared from the manual that connections to the current switch turn the unit off. This could be by shorting or applying a voltage from the HUMID terminals. If the latter wers the case, there would need be only three wires unless the fourth goes to a pilot.

In the manual, note the descriptions on page 15 (re MDEH2) and page 16 (showing the connection of MDEH2)

Every time the unit is plugged in, it will go through a 45 second self diagnostic. During this time, the fresh air fans will not turn on.

The switch on the side of the unit is used to toggle between STANDBY, LOW speed and MEDIUM speed modes. In order to activate HIGH speed, a jumper must be placed between the DEHUM + and DEHUM - contacts.

The Current Switch/IN COM is wired to a Dehumidistat On/Off with 4 wires, or to the Fantech RTS3 Intermittent Timer. I don't believe you short the COM to IN, but to make sure, check the following wiring diagram.

For a wiring diagram, please refer to pages 16 and 17 of the following installation guide:

Hi,
The main switch's function is to set the unit for off, intermittent mode or continuous mode.

If you hook a dehumidistat or timer to the Com and in and then set it to intermittent then the unit will run when they are calling for it to run...

If you set the switch for constant it will always run...

There are also defrost modes for cold weather climates...

Here is the manual which explains everything and has wiring diagrams towards the back... about page 26

I think that you are over thinking this and I am not following exactly what it is that you are trying to do with the unit.
The only way you can hope to get a schematic of the control it's self is to call the factory directly and ask for their tech. support people and talk to them directly.

I have wired many of these units and have always just set them up like you siad to run on low constant and then kick up to high if the humidity levels get too high. That is normally how I hook them up and they work great.

    Ok... now I got ya....

Yes, shorting the "in" and the "com" terminals should turn the unit off... unless there is a factory jumper across those terminals...in that case then opening or taking the jumper off will turn the unit off....

But yes that dehimd. 2 stat is a 4 wire deal and you will need two wires for the dehumid part and 2 for the on/off part...

Hello, in order for the humidifier to turn on and off with the furnace you need either a sail switch or current sensing relay. A sail switch mounts in the return air duct and senses the return air when the furnace turns on thus turning on the humidifier and turning it off when the airflow stops. A current sensing relay works the same way but instaed of sensing airflow in senses current on the blower motors common lead and is easier to install than a sail switch. I will post a pic of both

Doesn't work and I've checked all the connections and I've cleaned it thoroughly

By checking all the connections, do you mean you've looked at each component to make sure the machine is assembled so as to activate all of the safety features?
1) The back screen needs to be inserted so that the tab depresses the interior safety switch in the slot. You'll be able to hear it click. Wiggle the screen if the little tab seems loose. Some need to be inserted down on top of the switch, others need to push the switch back. Try both ways.
2) Have you checked the fuse? If it is blown, replace it with the EXACT same size, available from an auto parts store.
3) Is the wall socket live? (I know, that sounds totally stupid! But you'd be surprised at how often the wall socket is dead! (Often turned off by a switch somewhere else.)
4) If there's a switch on the far right side (some have this feature, some don't), set it to "Manual" and leave it there. The "auto" feature sometimes is deactivated or stops working.
5) Make sure the switch on the front is "On."
6) Try turning the knobs to different settings. Sometimes the lower settings are too low to activate the machine.
Hope this helps. If none of these troubleshooting steps helps, you can call Vollara (new name for Alpine/EcoQuest) and they'll give you some great options. 800-989-2299. Use #16618 if they ask for a referral number.

I have an Eagle 5000 air purifier. Stopped working

Just went thru this Tues. Get the top of screen in place and then push the plastic in on safety switch. I was having it push down and then slide screen in. That plastic piece is split like when you push it in, it hits 2 different heights. Instead of pushing it down get top in and push the plastic in, easy. Turned on then. Already had the switch on so it fired up soon as I pushed it in.

Xl-115 Automatic setting not working?

your sensor board has failed , a realy common problem , most if not all are dead and no parts are made for it ...... you do not need the sensor anyway it was only installed as a knee **** reaction to fda worrys of ozone levels over 0.05 ppm in bedrooms . so the board was installed to cut at 0.05 ...... it was a failure , so a bypass switch was added to get around the problem board ... just set on man , adjust for your sq ft ... you will be fine
