It sounds like the controller for the drive is shot. You will probably need a new enclosure as long as the drive itself is OK that should do it. What is probably happening is that the controller in the enclosure is broken and trying to pull too much power.

I think the product is no more available. So I suggest you to contact your e-bay vendor and demand him to provide suitable adapter.. other wise change the HDD to any Western Digital Product

Please i need the power adapter rating for seagate

Have you got the original power adapter?
If so the voltage details are printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter.
If the external USB Seagate hard drive houses a 31/2" drive then it requires an power adapter that provides +12 volts and +5 volts both supplying approx 2000mA of current.
If the Seagate uses a 21/2" (laptop) hard drive then it only requires +5 volts power adapter.
The only problem is the power connector to the external drive, make sure it suits the external hard drive unit and the power pins are correctly wired for the Seagate. If the polarity of the plug is incorrect lt wired (ie reverse polarity) then it could damage the USB hard drive and adapter case.

How to open case: Seagate ST3160203U2RK External Hard Drive ??

This is one of the mean tricks that the industry uses to discourage people from opening things and then totally ruining them.

What about getting yourself a 5-star-shaped screwdriver? Ask your hardware store guy.

Too expensive? Well - I have a lot of different simple slotted screwdrivers. Normally I find one that fits into 2 corners of these "miracle screws". If you don't have fitting one use a cheap one that is slightly too large to fit and grind it down just to size.

The same trick works with the other kind of "discouragement screws" that have ALMOST a normal slot --- but there's an elevation in the middle of it. A slot screwdriver with a ground-in **** in the middle (Dremel tools work fine) does the trick.

Driver software for3.5inch IDE , Black by Eforcity (POTHIDEX3501) IDE / EIDE HDD Encolsure

No drivers should be required for standard enclosures.

You should check that you are only using the cable that came with it to connect to the computer (not one that fits the same)
It MUST be plugged into a usb 2.0 port NOT a usb1.x
You should not plug it into a usb hub
It must have it's own power supply for any 3.5" enclosure

Also make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date and that there are no exclamation marks by any hardware in the hardware tab from system.

Wont stay connected

You need to isolate the problem. Based on the info that you have provided, it could be the FireWire port of the computer, it could be the hard drive itself or it could be the FireWire cable.

1. Try connecting the HD into different FireWire port.
2. Try other computer.
3. Try another FireWire cable.

Doing these steps would give you an idea which is giving out the problem.

Hi,

The drive you have is part of a batch of drive with rather sudden and complete failures. The previous responders comments about a $50,000 machine were accurate if not detailed. I work for a company that has such machines and can solve said problem most of the time. If you're in North America, we can help you out, if you're elsewhere in the world I can refer you to a similar company in your region.

BTW, the machinery and facilities to recover this type of problem are quite expensive but average rates if caught early are about $500, if too late for the "SIMPLE" fix will cost closer to $3000, but your data should be 90-100% recoverable either way.

Please comment back with your location(Country, State, City) and I will direct you to an appropriate service provider.

External hard drive wont stay connected to computer

This depends where the failure is.

If your controller board for the external casing or your power supply have failed the drive can be removed from the casing and placed in a new one($30-$40), then it should work fine. If the circuit board on the hard drive or an internal circuit for the drive has failed then you may require the help of a pro.

Reply back if you need a recommendation for a pro, include your location.
