Dell latitude cpi d300 xt keeps saying that the Primary hard disk drive 0 not found and it says that there is no bootable devices selected and when i hit the F1 key or the F2 key nothing happens please tell me what to do someone

What has probably happened is, your hard drive is probably dead Basically its saying it doesn't see the drive so it can't boot. It could be either the drive or the motherboard.

    Honestly, it is so old I would just replace it. You could just get a replacement drive but it depends on if you can get one. It would have to be an older drive, IDE not SATA, it would also have to be a 2.5 HDD. Try getting into the bios to see if you can find out anything else if you are going to repair it.

Primary hard disk drive 0 not found no bootable


Your hard disk is disconnected, or not configured correctly in the CMOS. Go to the BIOS and be sure that the computer recognizes the hard disk. If doesnt happens, check the connectors, and if it doesnt fix your problem, you need a new hard drive.

Is there a hard disk installed inside the computer? try reconnecting it.

The motherboard, the hard drive, or the connector could be faulty in this case.

Remember to unplug and remove battery if you open the laptop, the hard drive is in most cases in the bottom under a cover with few screws or in some dells its on the side with few screws and comes out from the side instead from the bottom.

BIOS screen says no primary hard disk, then "no bootable device available", now I have blue STOP screen with instructions


the hard drive may be bad. try re-partitioning the drive. if that doesn't work the hard drive will need to be replaced. if you still have warranty dell will replace it for you for free. www.dell.com/support. if you do not have warranty you will need to buy a new one for your computer. best buy sells them cheap. thank you for using fixya

Hi Kenneth,

If you just bought the laptop, then it is still covered by a warranty. Then all you have to do is contact the seller or directly to dell. This is the fastest and most appropriate way, and usually you will get one-to-one replacement (they will replace your laptop with new one). But, please make sure by contacting Dell.

Did you try to boot into the BIOS and load the default settings?
Pls check if the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS first.

Can't start windows


The issue you are having is that your computer is not seeing the harddrive or the boot drive. This could be a simple fix from the bios by telling the computer what device it needs to boot from which in this case is your hard drive.

You say that it did work and it was working how long ago was that? It also could be more serious in which you hard drive has crashed or exceeded its MTBF (which means "mean time before failure").

Dell latitude c640. comes up with error immediately after ram check displays... "primary hard disk drive 0 not found no boot device available - no bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2...


Seems to be a problem while detecting the hard disk. Please contact customer service if the laptop is in warranty.

Let me know what happens.
