Question about Canon imageRUNNER 5000 Copier

1 Answer

Small office with 10 workstations and a SBS2008 server. We have a Canon IR5070 networked. The Canon prints fine when it is just one single copy of a document, whatever the page count. When the user specify multiple copies, it prints multiples of that copies. For example: if an user choose 2 copies, it prints 2 copies twice, ending up with 4 copies. If the user choose 4 copies, it prints 4 copies 4 times, ending up with 16 copies, etc.\r\n Only the Canon is doing this, none of the other multifunctions or laser printers do this. Checked the setting to make sure all are set to 1 copies, etc. Please help. This is driving me insane!

Hello sisadmin,
I can imagine the "ear Traffic" you get from this problem not to mention the extent of your valuable time used to resolve the problem Although I am not an "IT" person such as yourself I hope I can help you understand that after 23 yrs of dealing with "T" of "IT" I might be able to help by using the fallback of KISS. Therefore I would strongly recommend that you consider the print driver as we start with the most simple. #1; the driver might be corrupt BUT more importantly you may not be using the UFR II driver that was specifically designed for the Canon device that is causing you to eat Rolaids. Yes a PCL driver will work 90% of the time. The Ultra Fast Rendering (UFR) driver is by far the desired print driver for this device as it designed to attempt to counter apps ( WORD) that prefer to override the end user's settings. And it's a superior driver in many other ways, for Canon devices. So I would say re-install the driver regardless. I bet you have already done this so please forgive me. And I bet you have already installed the UFR II driver (I had to ask). This does indeed sound like an instruction conflict as opposed to a device problem. But merely working on office equip for so long has done nothing more than say "nothing is impossible". But I'd be hard pressed to say anything other than the printer is responding to the instruction set it is recieving. I believe a strong troubleshooting tool would be to use a laptop. Unhook the offending device from your network and use a laptop with a crossover cable. Install the UFR II driver, and play. Pick out a document in a PDF format that resides on the lapper and ask for 2 cps. That eliminates apps and the network. I know you are rolling yours eyes and perhaps rightfully so. But that is bare bones. Might tell ya something. In the event that the symptoms persist, call the copier turd (me) and ask him to upgrade the firmware. Try to make sure (suggest) that when he does he uses the "OVERWRITE ALL" function. That way not only will NEW system software be installed but the existing software will be re- written. I hope you can tell that I genuinely want to help you, and I hope I have. I am not being paid by FIXYA, or at all. Just wanted to help. If i did help, let Fixya know please. Maybe they will thro me a bone. You take care and good luck.........................................SPINAL

I know I am posting back after quite a long period of absence, but the solution provided by Spinal did pointed me to the right direction, namely it was the device driver installed on the server being the culprit.

The printer drivers deployed from the server (SBS 2008) to the workstations are the correct drivers, and are all 32-bits. The printer driver installed on the server, however, were also 32-bit and this is where the problem is.

Changing the server driver to the 64-bit version solves the problem. Thanks, Spinal!

Network Printing Issue. I'm running 2008 Domain Controller 2003 File and Print Server. Cisco 3560G switches No 3rd Party print management software User workstations are all Windows Xp Pro SP2 Printers are...

DNS errors then? can you map to the printer via hostname too? Are you sure you're not using SP3? When we upgraded to SP3, we had to use the new drivers. Try new drivers.Have you tried just rebuilding your print server? try sharing the printer off your computer in the data center and try t print to that. When you ping the data center from the user's computer... what is the delay?

I have 10 machines. one is c2duo. i want to go

Ok the easiest way is to follow the wizard in xp, if you rt click on the "my network places, anf go to properties, you will open the network connections page. on the left under tasks, there is a wizard for setting up a home or small office network. This is built into XP, so you already have everything you need. If you want something with more options, the router usually comes wit a network setup disk, if you have a recent Linksys modem. I am using one and it will also walk you through the process. If you want something really intricate I can get you something from one of the many tech websites that I use, but you should do fine with either the winows networking wizard, or the routers software "if it's linksys, you have the disk already", if you need it I can get you a link to the lynksys networking page, but I am sure you can figure that out, if you have a different brand they all usually supply the information necessary to set up a network, hope this answers your question, good luck

Printing to a Canon MX310 through a print server

i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!
