Question about Russound CA64IL Amplifier

1 Answer

I have no output on my Russound ca6.4. All lights on console and room controllers appear to function. Input double checked. Could amp be fried?

Marek, I have a similar problem and read this post. There is about 1.3 V across this capacitor. Is that enough to be "any AC?" The unit was fine, then became intermittent on all channels and now never plays. Thanks David

I just changed the capacitor as Marek suggested (I used the original type because I did not hae a 4.7 uF one and I am up and running. Fantastic advice. Thanks Marek.

  • Larry Ruehl Jan 31, 2013

Is the Cap C28 label hidden? I see a cap matching Marek spec but it is between IC10 and C29. The label is either hidden or not marked. Also, anyone try with the 4.7uF?

  • Larry Ruehl Feb 10, 2013

Marek, Your a Genius! I replaced the C28 with the 4.7uf from radio shack which cost me less than $2. Voila, it now works and my house is back to rockin! For those interested, The C28 was sandwiched between the IC10 & C29 on the bottom board about 2" away (inward) from the board power connector. But then I have the newer 6.4 with the plug in keypad connectors and it may be different if you have the scewdown type.) Several screws of different sizes have to be removed to get to it and be sure to take note of which ones came out where cus I now have leftover screws:( Okay, off to my regular duties now. Good luck to all and thanks!

I may have same problem, but not sure about where the c28 is located on unit. Do you have a pix? Or description of how to access cap?

I have the same symptoms with the same unit. I couldn't find the C28 although it looks like there might be a leaking capacitor around the area described by Larry. Is this the problem ?

CA6.4 that has no sound, but all other funtcions are fine, has a problem with protection IC 10 (uPC12370). Check the Cap C28 (2.2uF/50V). If you read any AC
Volatge on that Cap, it means Cap is dry. Replace it with 4.7uF/50V and go back to
your regular duties.
P.S. Since the unit is discontinued, I would love to see basic diagram, available from the manufacturer for download, for easy troubleshooting. I had to spend feew precious minutes to fix that.

Is there any way you can specify where in the unit to find the part you are describing above?

there are two large circuit boards. This capacitor in on the lower one. about two inches in from the main connector to the power supply circuit board.

marek, I have the same problem as philip posted in May 2011. There is 1.3 V coming across Cap C26. Is that enough to pass your "any AC voltage test?"

also Marek, why replace it with the larger capacitor rather than one that meets the original spec?

My zoom g1x theres no sound.all power are working lcd light are on.but the sound cannot come out.can any one help me..

What letters / numbers that appears on the screen?
If the display is normal, and you can switch to other banks, and can edit each bank, then the problem of no sound, is at the pre-amp IC input, output amp, or CODEC converter.
This is the overall image of G1X inside.zoom-g1x-theres-no-sound-all-power-2ss5ycyvkoajtv035dpuezke-2-0.jpg Next, we zoom-in the middle of picture above.
See the next picture.
IC2 (left) is input pre-amp IC (NJM2100).
IC4 (middle) is the CODEC IC (WM8734).
IC5 (right) is the IC output (NJU7082).zoom-g1x-theres-no-sound-all-power-2ss5ycyvkoajtv035dpuezke-2-1.jpg

Test whether the input IC is working normally, turn ON G1X, plug the guitar, go to BYPASS/TUNER menu. When the TUNER function could work, certainly input IC is not damaged.
Means only two possibilities, namely CODEC and output IC. That is not easily tested, except in specific ways.

May also, there are problems in the input / output socket.
Turn ON G1X. Try the following (see figure below):
  • Test the output socket. Touch pin output socket (right red arrow) with finger / screwdriver / whatever. If sound is heard in the amplifier, the output socket is normal.
  • Test the input socket, Same as above. (left red arrow). (if this happen in this point, problem is clear).

NOTES:
If lcd light are on (as you say), but appearing G1 or d5 or bt, and the system are hang / frozen, this is a different issue to the one described above, and dealt with in different ways too.

Why won't my Roussand R850MC amplifier play sounds into our multi-room setup?

Sounds like one of the power amplifiers in your Russound has a short. It's not a difficult repair for a good technician. Try a local stereo shop or send it off to Russound.

Russound CA6.4 amp / controller - 3 of the 6 zones can't switch source inputs.

I suspect the inputs will all go into an IC. You just need to trace one of them back till you come across it. Either the circuit around it will be the problem, or more likely the IC itself.

How do I attach power amp to 1832 mixer

There are a number of configurations for a mixer like the 1832, the most common are PA system and Recording system. There are Main output jacks which carry the mix as summed in the main faders. These in a PA system would feed the pa amplifiers which drive the house speaker system for the audience. These connectors are XLR 3 pin type on the rear, intended for professional pa amplifiers which use balanced +4dbv line input level. Amplifier which have 3 pin XLR connectors for input signals can accept that high level signal. For home style HiFi amplifiers, the signal level is nominally -10DBv and balanced or unbalanced signal lines with 1/4in diameter phone plugs which are connected to the mixer by way of a second set of Main output connectors which are 1/4in phone jacks. Use whichever amplifier input level your amp has.
If you are not using it as a main PA house mixer, but using it for recording, the main output connectors go to a 2 channel recorder or computer sound card recorder. The power amp and your monitor speakers are connected to the connectors labeled "Control Room" (CTRL Rm). These output are useful for recording because the signal through the mixer can be monitored from several buses, Solo, main mix, selected by buttons provided. The buttons only affect the signal heard through the control room monitors, and not the main output which only sees the main mix so selecting "solo" does not interrupt the signal going to the recorder while the engineer in the control can be checking other signal paths through the board.

I have a Marantz 7.1 AV receiver (sr5500) and I run a 5.1 set up for home theatre and use the 2 extra channels to run a pair of outdoor stereo speakers... When I first set it up I also found I could not get a digital signal output, only analog, after reading the manual(!) I discovered that it can only output an analog signal...so I have used the phono outputs on my blu-ray player into the CD input of the AV amp and play CDs outside through this and it also outputs the optical digital signal into the AV amp through the DVD input...my iPod also plays through a dock and it's analog output to the speakers outside through another (CD-R) anolog input on the amp... Hope this helps

Activate mikrophone on ps3

•Your headset should appear as the audio input/output device. If not, just use the D-pad to highlight the Input line, then scroll until you see yours. Any microphone you have used with your PS3 will be listed, but only the current one will be available to select.
•Set the "Microphone Level" to 4. You can change the level any time if needed.
•Speak into the headset, and the level bar at the top of the screen should move at the sound of your voice.
You can also view a list of Bluetooth accessories you have registered in the "Manage Bluetooth Devices" tab under "Settings".
If your mic doesn't appear there then try pairing it again.
There are more ways to configure the audio input and output that can be useful:
•Set the input to (your mic) and leave the output on (default)- one person can chat with the other players, and the replys will play over your TV speakers rather than into your mic. Great when sharing one console because everyone can hear the team talk.
•Set the input and output to (default)- you will hear the game sound and voice chat through your TV speakers but won't be able to talk back. Great if you don't have a headset, or if you want the room to hear the team chat.
•Set the output to (default) to use stereo headphones with your TV or receiver. Then set the input to (your mic) and you can chat while wearing stereo headphones. Keeping the mic close to your face could be a problem since both ears are already taken! You could try a USB desktop mic and see if that works. I will add info on that as it comes in.
In Game XMB:
•All of the functions in Audio Device Settings are available when using the XMB via the PS button during a game. You can set the input/output, mic level, and device. You can test your mic, and pair a new BT headset while in game.

3. Troubleshooting
General:
If you are having trouble with a headset after it is paired with the PS3, there are a few things to check first:
•Make sure your headset battery is charged and working. Be aware that some brands/models will need to be paired again after each recharge. It's not a problem, it's just the way those models work.
•Make sure your controller is charged. Lots of strange things happen when the controllers don't have enough power, like dropouts and headset interference.
•The headset should be set as the input/output device from the XMB.
•For Bluetooth users, make sure there are no other Bluetooth devices in use near your PS3. Also try to eliminate any other radio frequency interference if possible.
•For USB users, make sure the connection is secure and there are no wire breaks.
•Update your console to the current available firmware

D-Link DIR615 power light doesn't come on when plugged in

You must have checked in the first place the voltage input of the router. Some router use 12V and others use 9V. Now if you have supplied an incorrect voltage input, you might fry the router's main board. Double check the voltage input of the router first vs. the adapter's output. If they are on the same voltage, your router is dead already
